My school has the greatest number of native Hawaiian students in the U.S. Sadly, they are also some of the most economically disadvantaged students in the U.S. It is difficult to encourage them to believe that education can change their lives. It is even more difficult to encourage them to want to learn in a classroom that is 90 degrees and humid. The heat and humidity makes them tired and unmotivated. Air conditioning would create an environment that is physically comfortable which would allow for students to focus on learning instead of how hot they are.
