I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who have autism, multiple disabilities, are intellectually disabled, and emotionally disturbed. This means my students do not learn best with lecture or notes. I teach creative lessons using interactive notebooks and personal whiteboards, but my students need more than typical students. We work a lot with my students on creating independence. We want them to eventually be able to have a job outside of school. We focus our reading, writing, math, science and social studies activities on what they may encounter in everyday life outside of school. We use money math, teach social skills, and learn about job skills during the school day.
