This is a Title 1 school. My students deal with challenges in behaviors and it sometimes causes them to fall behind academically. The focus is to learn new behaviors and ways to deal with big feelings like anger. We work on social skills, so they can be successful in the general education classroom. This class is so very important because we are trying to prevent social problems down the road. These children can end up falling way behind academically, if they don't learn to handle their behaviors, which results in high drop out rates for this population. The students are awesome kids, and they are very smart. Their behavior sometimes is an obstacle in them reaching their potential. I work a lot on self-confidence on the front end, so they believe in themselves and then they can do well academically.
