My students are fourth graders in an urban, public school. Our classroom is an inclusion classroom for students with special needs. This means we have both general education and special education students in our class. We have a diverse community with various needs. Our classroom community is one of encouragement and acceptance. They are compassionate listeners and respectful of each other's feelings. Student interests vary between sports, singing, art, fashion design, and nature, but all students are interested in technology. Whether it is an app, game, or video, all students share a common interest in technology and social media. My students want to succeed. Some might say that many of my students will have a difficult time overcoming obstacles in their lives, but I believe that my students are more determined, capable, and spirited than most. I believe that instilling a love of reading in each of my students will greatly impact their motivation as life-long learners.
