Writing is an integral part of my social studies curriculum. We aim to build our skills in informative, creative, and persuasive writing. My students participate in a series of collaborative discussions and projects designed to hone these skills in communication both written and spoken. As an art integration school, students often collaborate on projects that include writing of all kinds: from monologue scripts, to musical parodies of historical events, to persuasive arguments. A Microsoft Surface Pro, would be a helpful tool for students to work collectively to produce work that meets such standards as; WHST.6-8.4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Another standard that could be achieved through the use of technology I selected is, Writing: W.7.6 Use technology, including the internet to produce and publish writing and link to and cite sources as well as to interact and COLLABORATE with others, including linking to and citing sources. It is important to note, that this is also a Corresponding College and Career Readiness (CCR) Anchor Standard.
