Learning to be Readers With eReaders in the ESL Classroom
Funded Dec 31, 2019I am so very excited to share that our project has been fully funded!! Because of your kind and generous spirit, these students have been given the chance to elevate their education experience and we are beyond grateful. Our ESL students were able to increase their exposure to resources that help them with their reading development. Students are engaged with technology resources that they otherwise wouldn't have exposure to. Please know how thankful we are that you took of your time and resources to give them a leg up. Thank you!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Yates

Funded Aug 16, 2014My students and I have been diving into the books that you all so generously helped us acquire since the day the boxes arrived. They couldn't wait to read the books we had just welcomed into our classroom. Just the covers and titles alone got them excited to learn.
With the move towards Common Core, my job as an educator is, not only to prepare them for this transition, but also to instill in them a lifelong love of reading. The books that were selected were Common Core exemplar texts. By exposing them to these texts prior to this shift taking place, they will be better prepared because of their familiarity with the text. Also, since they already are invested in the material, when they see them on assessments they will be able to focus more on the content.
We have been using them for read-alouds, close reading, and also for passages on our class assessments. I recently used them to teach the target skill of Author's Purpose to students by having them analyze the text to determine what each author's purpose was. They came up with great ideas and had the evidence from the texts to support their claims. Because we are using authentic texts that the students will, no doubt, again see on future standardized assessments, I have high hopes for their success and they share my outlook.
Thank you again for making these materials available to us all. Without your help, we would have never have been able to procure such valuable resources.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Yates
