In addition to using evidence-based practices and a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, we would like to enhance the culture of our school by rewarding the positive behaviors of our students with tangible items like incentives, pencils, pens, markers, notepads, erasers, stress balls and other supplies that students want and need throughout the year. The purpose of this project is NOT to make a profit. With the creation of an incentives program such as our proposed "STAR COIN EXCHANGE" store, students will be able to exchange their pre-earned STAR "coins" for individual and group incentives and rewards. Creating a space where students can be rewarded for their behavior is a fun and creative way to cultivate a positive culture that simultaneously addresses both the social and emotional needs of our students. At our school, we strive to create a culture of positivity as we know that a student's ability to engage in productive and positive behaviors is a prerequisite for academics. Students learn appropriate behavior in the same way a child who doesn’t know how to read learns—through instruction, practice, feedback, encouragement, and reinforcement! As we consider the diverse needs of our student population, we seek to reinforce the positive behaviors of our students by creating a location in our school for students to earn incentives. Your contributions will help reinforce the STAR behaviors that our students display when they show kindness, take responsibility, act safely, and respect everyone.
