  • Building Fantastic Art Classrooms

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

Thank you so much for making this grant possible. Art is so important for kids. In the art room they get to use their creativity and imagination. They get their hands dirty and use their bodies. They get to be social and help each other create. It gets kids grounded in the present and can reduce stress.

This grant has helped replenish the basic supplies that are needed to do art. We go through a lot of materials when we are creating.

The new drying rack was crucial for one of the classrooms that I teach in. The space is tight and the room is shared with other programs. Having a rack big enough to hold multiple classes of artwork is so important.

Thank you for you support. The kids and I are so grateful for these materials.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Art Room Starter Kit

    Funded Aug 16, 2024

Thank you so much for all of these materials. I am happy to say that our year has started out wonderfully. We are having so much fun and the students are creating beautiful artwork. I will upload some photos of work from our very first art show.

The posters that were in this order have been so great to have in making each of the three art rooms inspiring and special spaces. We refer to our elements of art posters as many of our lessons have had a focus on one of these elements.

We are lucky to have all of these supplies and use them every day. I am learning how to find resources and supplies in our community as we go through A LOT of them. I am so appreciative of the Donor's Choose community for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Students on Stage

    Funded Mar 21, 2024

Wow thanks to your donations our school now has working microphones, stands, cords, and stage items to put on a show!

Last Spring we held our first talent show in 4 years. Due to the Covid times we hadn't had one in awhile. With our new stage equipment it was a spectacular hit. Families told teachers that it was the best community event we had in years. We hope to do so many more events and productions in the future.

Our 5th grade graduation was also so much better this year with the working microphones to deliver sweet poems and speeches from our graduates.

I am always so humbled by the support of our community members from Donor's Choose. It truly takes a village.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Science, Art, and Portfolio Materials

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

This was a big project! Thank you so much for getting our class the materials that went with it. My class has used the wonderful art materials to do many paintings, crafts, and create winter projects such as snow globes with them inside.

The science materials have help many hands on science happen in our class. One photo shows our class using paper cups, string, and paperclips to create telephones. In our science unit about waves of sound this was a fun lesson to prove that sound travels through vibrations.

Also, the portfolio supplies have been put to use by students to create a place where they can store their favorite work samples and set their personal goals.

We deeply appreciate your generosity. And thank you to the Donor's Choose team for also making these grants possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Life Lab of Our Dreams

    Funded Dec 30, 2022

Our life lab was one of the original life labs in an elementary school in California. Over the years it has had times of thriving and times of neglect. I can honestly say it is at the height of its potential right now thanks to you. The funds helped cover power tools that were desperately needed to maintain the large space. Our life lab teacher was able to get so many projects going with these necessary tools. The growing supplies have already been put to use to grow seedlings of a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. We have built all new garden beds with proper weed control. Now our produce will thrive with out being taken over by weeds. Our new work wagon is being used all day long. Everything purchased through this grant is making such a huge difference.

We are so incredibly grateful for your support. This space will provide learning, fun, and healthy foods to our students for years to come. Having a thriving and producing school garden is a true gift to our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Math, Art, Reading, and Seating for Fourth Graders

    Funded Dec 28, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Your donations have made a big impact in our 4th grade class. As soon as we received the materials we put them into use.

The seat cushions are being used by some of my students that really need to wiggle. I have already seen a positive change in them. Instead of constantly finding reasons to get out of their seats, they are able to sooth that need to wiggle right at their learning station. Also, the set of floor cushions are so popular I may need to write another grant for more. Flexible seating is a positive thing in our classroom.

The books have been a huge hit! Especially the one about if Bigfoot is real. The students are enjoying them and excited about the new library choices.

We are so appreciative for these tools, supplies, books, and seating options. Thank you for making this all possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Student Portfolios for Academic Success

    Funded Sep 1, 2022

Thank you so much for helping get these materials to our 4th graders. Each student has now put together their portfolio binder. They have decorated a cover and started to add their special assignments to their portfolios.

Throughout the year students will add samples of their work and items that make them proud. They will be setting goals and reviewing their progress towards those goals. This really helps them have ownership over their learning.

My students were so excited to hear that members of their community and even from other states donated to make this possible. That kindness is also a lesson.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

  • Books for Emerging Readers

    Funded Dec 10, 2021

I wish you could have seen the student's faces when I opened up all of the shipping boxes that contained the books that you all helped fund. I told them that the books were donated by your generosity. Not only are the students going to benefit from the books, but they got to feel your act of kindness. Kindness is contagious and it made an impact on them.

These books are needed more than ever. After the impact of the last few years, many 4th graders are not reading at grade level. Emerging readers really need access to lots of books at their level. My students that read at this level were stunned to see so many new books in that section of our classroom library. They were excited about which ones they were going to check out first.

These books will benefit not only my students now, but students in coming years as well. Thank you for your help in getting them into our classroom library.”

    With gratitude,

  • Young Artist Supplies and a Few Other Items

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations! You helped our class get these much needed art supplies. We were able to do a fun, hands on, mixed media winter art project where students put themselves into a snow globe. They had so much fun.

We have also been using the watercolor supplies to create various paintings. We had been using really old and damaged brushes and it was time to replace them. Also, the water color paper will last us for a long time.

The other school supplies were also so needed. You would be shocked at how many pencils and sheets of paper we go through!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilpin

I have been teaching for ten fantastic years. It is such an incredibly rewarding job. I am constantly trying to bring new strategies, practices, and resources to my students. It is an exciting time in education right now. The Common Core standards are putting collaborative student talk and project based learning back in the front of all learning. I believe in students learning through discussions and hands on activities. Kids need to explain their thinking to really make meaning of what they are learning. I work with a lot of students that are English learners and I believe that giving them lots of opportunities to work and speak with their peers will accelerate and deepen their learning. Thank you for supporting these kids on Donor's Choose.
