Our carpet area is used for group teaching (Read-Alouds, phonics review, etc.) as well as for morning 'Soft Start' activities. My two giant floor puzzles (rainforest animals and USA map) have been a huge hit with my second graders - both boys and girls - and they're begging for more. Unfortunately, the old carpet we have, where these puzzles are put together, is worn and hard. The only other floor area available is linoleum, which is equally uncomfortable for sitting on. A new carpet, and other seating options, will provide a comfortable space for puzzles and other stimulating activities to occur.
