My students are learning about story elements. It is a joy for them to identify the author and the illustrator of a story. First grade is the grade where students learn to appreciate that an author has a purpose in writing a story. Realizing the differences between what is real and what is imagined is a task they enjoy! Students will be able to earn books that they will be able to keep. At present we are participating in The Great High Frequency Word Challenge. My students will use hands-on tools to work on basic subtraction/addition facts. Using a hands-on approach helps to make problem solving more meaningful.
