This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 2 other donors.Scholastic News For Kids
Funded Aug 22, 2015Thank you so much for your generosity. With the Scholastic News and Science Spin Subscriptions, we are able to discover and read about current events on a weekly basis! Scholastic News not only teaches students about meaningful places, events and people in their world, but also teaches non-fiction reading skills such as comparing and, finding the main idea, grammar and more!
Every week, my students are so excited to study the magazine. We start by studying the rich photographs that accompany each article and watch a video found on the site's digital resources. Students are given the opportunity to activate their prior knowledge, and engage in meaningful an authentic study of the topic. Then we read the article as a class. Students always have many questions that lead to higher order thinking and authentic discussions.
Thank you for helping my students develop fluency and knowledge through these magazines.”

Engaging Community of Learners
Funded Aug 26, 2014Thank you so much for your generosity and support. This project meant a lot to my students and me. Everyone in the classroom was thrilled when a large package arrived addressed to our classroom. We are truly touched by your generosity.
We use the math and phonics games every week during centers and stations. These games provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate and practice what they've learned in a fun way. So much of what we do in the classroom is aligned to rigorous state and federal standards, students aren't getting the opportunity to play. With your donation, students are academically and socially learning together. And on Fridays, students even get the chance to play games like Trouble, Sorry, Guess Who and Connect Four. My students are always so excited when I take out these games for them to play!
Once again, thank you so much! Your gift will be appreciated by my students now and those to come.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lin
