My students in second grade are a mixture of different abilities and interests. When my students come into 2nd grade, several already think of reading as a chore. Something to do because the teacher said so. I try during the year to change that. While in my class, we really like to take advantage of independent reading time, so that they can be exposed to a lot of different texts throughout the year.
