Many of my students find science boring and irrelevant to their lives. Also many of the students only read when absolutely forced to and they do not understand that reading and literacy is important for all classes. My school has a literacy program to help improve student literacy and I want to take it a step further by improving not only literacy but science literacy. Science literacy is defined as the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for personal decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity. These skills are important for all students no matter what their plans are after high school.
