  • Thrilling Adventures!

    Funded Jan 2, 2024

These decodable books have been a game changer in my small groups. We read a book in the series every Friday. My students look forward to Friday reads and can't wait to see what happens in the adventure. These books have shown the kids that reading can be fun and exciting.

Each book has a phonics topic and reading vocabulary. We review the vocabulary and the phonics skill every time we read. Sometimes looking up examples of the vocabulary words and learning about different concepts. Some students in my groups don't have the background knowledge that other students have and this helps them build their reading vocabulary.

We can't wait until next Friday!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • Push In to Greatness!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Students in my small groups have learning disabilities that impact how they learn to read and focus. The fidgets and and games in this project have helped students in my small groups focus and relate to learning in an impactful way. The fidgets have helped students be able to focus on learning their phonics rules and focus their attention throughout small group and have even helped them in their whole group class.

The folders, pencils, and supplies in this project has helped me organize my small groups so that they have lessons that are individualized to student levels. These supplies have made groups flow more smoothly and helped students organize their work. This teaches them executive functioning skills that they can take with them to middle school.

This project has helped my small groups remain focused and organized. This has supported students in all my groups stay on task and reach their potential!”

  • Learning to Read and Write Can Be Fun!

    Funded Aug 20, 2022

Students are with me during the school day in the whole group classroom and also during small group sessions in a separate space. The flexible seating options have been a great resource to help students focus and participate in learning. Students will work together to make a schedule and set timers so that everyone gets a turn on the wobbly chair or the yoga ball seat. When they were able to use the flexible seating for the first time, they were so excited and had the biggest smiles on their faces!

They also use the daily sentence fix it journals everyday and have been fixing the sentences using their CUPS strategies. We also do the sentence fix its as a whole group warm up for writing. They have learned so much about how to edit their writing and really are working together to find the errors in each problem.

All the other materials including white board markers and folders have helped the classroom stay organized and helped establish a solid classroom routine. Each student has their own folder to check everyday and was able to decorate with their own style! Our classroom has run so much smoothly with the support and generosity of donors like you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Kids Can Do Virtually Anything!

    Funded Dec 27, 2020

My students and I are so grateful for your donations. We have been through quite a year and have been working harder than ever to connect and succeed this school year. We began the school year fully remote. We just began hybrid learning and will soon transition to full in person learning. All these changes have been challenging for staff and students alike. With your donations we are able to create resources that support our students learning goals and behavioral needs.

My students are neruodivergent learners and need support to learn and grow. With the added pressure of changing schedules and routines, it has been difficult to support their growth. Through your donations we were able to purchase supplies to make binders with matching, letters, math, shapes, and sorting concepts function and size. Using these binders has helped students focus their attention without the stress of writing. It helps organize their bodies and communicate. These tasks have helped students reacclimate to the school environment and we are so lucky to have them.

Your donations have also helped us purchase reading supports to help students who will be remaining remote learners. We were able to purchase boom cards that they can access online. This helps them stay engaged when their peers may be in school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • Giving Students Tools of Their Own

    Funded Aug 5, 2020

This year is like no other. Students in my class are conquering the most difficult tasks of their educational lives. During a normal school year the transition from summer to school is a difficult one and they need the support of visuals and sensory tools to help them stay regulated and ready to learn and participate. This year our district is fully remote. My students went from fully remote in the spring, then summer, and now fully remote in the fall. There is hope that we will come back to in person learning, however; only when it is safe. Originally I requested these supplies to give each student their own materials in class to avoid cross contamination. Since my students have not come back yet I was able to assemble remote learning kits and send them home to help support families in their remote learning journeys. It has been so helpful for families to have the tools that we would use in school to help keep their students focused and ready for the challenge of remote learning. In the future I would love for students to return to the classroom and use their supplies in school, for now I am so grateful that through your generosity I was able to provide families with the tools they need to educate their children during remote learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • Visualize Distance Learning

    Funded Jun 10, 2020

This project has helped my students and myself so immensely this school year, it's hard to find the words to show my gratitude. This year turned everything on it's head. Parents and teachers have had to learn new programs, new routines, and new ways to reach our most at risk learners. Through this project I was able to use the Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards to purchase digital materials to reach students who are remote. I was able to download boom cards that are interactive that students can use at home with their families, social stories to help students understand how important it is to wash hands, and materials to help students keep working on skills like tying their shoes at home. I would not have been able to provide my students with the interactive materials that I have without this project. I am beyond grateful that I am able to give my students a small taste of normalcy in this crazy world by teaching them the lessons that they have been working on throughout the school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • Super Supplies

    Funded Jun 11, 2019

Students are using the supplies from this project every single day. Their schedules sit on their new durable clips boards. They can carry these around with them throughout the day to help promote organization and independence. They use white board markers, markers, and crayons in daily activities including; creative writing, spelling practice, themed crafts, and support with letter formation. Being able to start the year with fresh supplies has been so invigorating. The students have been so excited to use supplies that are new and durable for the new school year.

In addition to writing supplies, we also asked for bean bags and timers. These are utilized several times a day for sensory breaks when students feel like they need time to calm down and get ready to work. They can sit on a bean bag and a teacher will set a timer so they know when its time to get up and do their work. Having a place in the classroom to de-stress is so helpful for my students. Situations that may not seem stressful to us can be really difficult for them to tackle. Now they have a place to reflect and calm themselves after a stressful experience.

The students in my classroom were so excited to start the school year with so many wonderful supplies. They are ready to have a great year of progress and growth!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • Winner Winner! When Building Social Skills Everyone Wins!

    Funded Apr 5, 2018

When our project boxes arrived everyone in the class was so excited! We had been talking about how to be kind to people and the meaning of generosity. When the packages came to our school everyone was thinking about how to help each other and how we could be generous in our own school. We opened the boxes and were thrilled to see all of our games! We were able to share our games with the students that visit us for social club. We were able to share and embody the ideals that we had been learning about by playing and sharing with our friends. This gave my students a great reason to initiate social interactions with their peers! We were able to facilitate not only sharing the games, but learning how to play them together.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • On Our Way to Success

    Funded Dec 31, 2014

When the supplies from this project arrived everyone was so excited! We opened all the boxes as a class and all of my students were thrilled with the contents. Games, crayons, markers, a bean bag chair, and a yoga ball were all materials we needed on a daily basis. They were so curious and excited to explore all of the contents. They immediately started bouncing on the ball and wanted to play Zingo! (a word matching game) right away!

We use the resources from this project daily. The white board markers are a huge help, where we do a lot of work on white boards to help reduce the stress of mistakes. The yoga ball, body sock, and bean bag chair are also used daily in our break room to help students who need sensory support. After a break on the bean bag students are often able to attend and focus on academic tasks. The games from this project have also been a huge help for our class. Students have game play once a week where we practice taking turns, following game play rules, and over all good sportsmanship.

This project was just what we needed to invigorate our classroom. With all of our new tools the staff in this classroom has been able to work more effectively towards our goals.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

  • ASD Grades 3-5 Unlock Our Potential!

    Funded Aug 11, 2014

This project was started because this is my first year teaching and I wanted to make sure I was providing all that I could for my students. By donating to my project you've helped me provide many learning opportunities and a structured schedule and classroom to my students. I was lucky enough to receive all of my materials before the start of the school year and was able to set everything up so that on the first day of school students entered into an organized and welcoming environment.

My students are all on the Autism Spectrum and have varying degrees of communication. Having a structured learning environment with methodical techniques is so important to their level of success. Your donation provided them with visual timers (helping with transitions), number lines and games for math, whiteboards and markers that help them learn without the fear of making mistakes and coins and paper money so that one day they will be able to make change at a store.

The items that were donated are used every single day and are appreciated beyond words. My students aren't always able to communicate their gratitude; however, they are able to make progress in their education and this is the greatest thank you of all time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howard

I teach in an urban area that is rich with diversity. Within that population I teach a substantially separate autistic classroom. Each one of my students is sweet and loving in their own ways. The wonderful thing about working with students on the autism spectrum is that they each have unlocked potential. It is our job as educators to find the keys to unlock this potential and turn it into academic progress and functional communication. I am amazed everyday at how they learn and come to conclusions in their own special ways. My students benefit from learning in unique hands on experiences. They benefit from structure, routine and visual representations of concepts. We are lucky to be in a school that has a great community of educators and therapists. We all work together to provide our students with a learning environment that is safe and nourishing to their own individual educational journeys.
