Thomson is a Title 1 school with over 90% of the students receiving free or reduced-priced lunch. Most of the students speak English as a second language which makes learning a challenge. We have a culturally diverse school with 60% of the population receiving ESL (English as Second Language) support. Thomson is not only dedicated to educating the students, but the parents as well. Many of the parents take English classes at school four days a week; and all parents are encouraged to attend monthly chats with the principal in the morning or evening dialogues with the teachers on their grade level. We talk about the importance of reading, taking students to the museum, and simply talking to them.
