I teach 6th grade in a Chicago public school. My school puts a lot of emphasis on the climate of the school and the classroom. Students need to feel safe and welcome before they can begin to learn in an environment. I teach math which is a scary subject for many, so I like to make my room as inviting and calming as I can to ease students anxiety. Once they feel safe and comfortable in the classroom they begin to open up and take the risks necessary to be successful in math.
