  • Computer Science STEM Classroom Environment

    Funded Nov 5, 2024

My students and I are using the new resources to revolve the culture of our classroom. The Djeco Origami Kit and Hapray Origami Kits were distributed to students who signed up for the virtual or in person code with your parents event I conducted during Computer Science Education Week at the school. The students and their parents were so amazed with the origami kits that they used it as an opportunity to further the process of following algorithms with their children at home.

We used the EFINE 5-Shelf Shelving Units and Storage on Wheels with Shelf Liners Adjustable Carbon Steel Wire Rack and the Wooden Open Shelf Bookcase - 3-Tier Floor Standing Display Cabinet Rack with Legs for storing and organizing all the items in the classroom closet and centers section for easy organization.

Lastly, The Heavy Duty Rolling Utility Cart with Wheels has been used as a stand to properly secure our fish tank and beautiful AquaSprouts Complete Set in a safe learning zone environment so that students can closely observe. This will allow me to start our class project relating to climate and social projects. My student stated that they had never heard of a system like this, where fish and plants benefited from each other. They are amazed by the complex AquaSprouts system using the Seating for Classroom Elementary Yoga Ball Chairs for Kids and Wobble Chair of School Supplies for Sensory Kids, Student Desk Chairs for Homeschool to complete their assignment, participate in their centers activity or relax and watch and learn about AI bias in with such joy and excitement.”

  • Computer Science STEM Classroom Environment - Part II

    Funded Nov 5, 2024

My students and I are using the new resources to make the culture of our STEM classroom at the highest level. Students have been immersed into the materials while gaining critical thinking skills, social skills and understanding that it's truly normal to equate fun with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The students have been loving the Learning Resources Code & Go Robot Mouse ,

Sphero indi Screenless Coding Robot for Kids learning to build mazes, learn computational thinking and problem solve like engineers.

Furthermore, I've used the following materials to recreate an deep ocean environment natural driftwood, reptile plants, learn about ocean and climate bias with our artificial glowing fish, seaweed water plants in the Aquasprouts.”

  • Lego Mindstorms to Learn Math & Science

    Funded Jan 14, 2020

The Lego Mindstorm projet items you contributed to through your funding of our classroom was of great value and resource. The students and I were speechless and impressed by the donations. The previous year we had to borrow a Lego Mindstorm in order to enter district contests. My students were so impressed by the Lego Mindstorm when they first saw it that I was determined to figure out how to obtain some for my classrooms.

Contributions by many great people like you make us fortunate to work on multiple robots at a time. Students come up daily to finish creating robots as a a group, so much so that we have a schedule to accomidate the thirst of all the students. Young females students state that they want to engineer and code their own robots as a goal of accomplishment. They are all young and just eager to learn about robots. As a class we will be working on big projects that will use the Lego Mindstorm robots to accomplish certain tasks.

We will use our robots in computer science to change our lives and open our minds into the world of computer science. We plan to enter more contest and start to envision how we will change the world one robot at a time.”

The students and I were speechless and impressed by the donations. The previous year we had to borrow a Lego Mindstorm in order to enter district contests. My students were so impressed by the Lego Mindstorm when they first saw it that I was determined to figure out how to obtain some for my classrooms. My thrid grade students used the Lego Wedo with great comfort and ease, working in groups to engineer the robot.

  • A Clean Magic Classroom Carpet

    Funded Jan 29, 2009

I can't thank you enough for your acts of kindness.  I say acts in the plural speech because of the purchase of The Hoover SteamVac Commercial Carpet Cleaner you've bought for us as well  the kindness you have brought to our hearts.  Everyday we step into our classroom we start the day knowing that the Perry&Donna Golkin Family Foundation really care about our well being. The kids are so happy and relieved to know that the once dirty carpet is now clean.

When we started the 2008-2009 school year I asked my principal if she could buy a carpet or carpet cleaner. She sadly said there's no money in our budget to buy a new carpet and a carpet cleaner was out of the question.

My students were thrilled to run and sit on the carpet during homework review time, individual reading, and when I read a book to the class.  Furthermore, the kids are still shocked about the concept of donors like the Perry & Donna Golkin Family Foundation  choosing to care so much to make a change in their lives.  This was a very important lesson for us. It has encouraged us to think about ways that we can change the lives of others as well.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parker
