By the end of school year we all need a little something extra to encourage and recharge the love for learning. I always save my favorite student novel for the end. The Outsiders, always keeps my students hanging on every word. It is a coming of age story that hits close to home with some of my students. It is also proof that children have important things to write about. S.E. Hinton starting writing The Outsiders at the age of 15 and had it published at age 18, a revelation that always peaks the interest of my students who have a passion for writing.
