  • Focus & Fund: Support Student Photographers

    Funded Aug 16, 2024

I am deeply appreciative of your generous donation to our project. The addition of backdrops and studio lights has greatly enhanced our photography program, offering our students a wealth of new opportunities when creating their work.

Our photography program is expanding rapidly, with all sections full this year and waitlists for nearly all of them. As a result, our current supplies are in high demand, and we are always in need of additional resources. We continually seek ways to acquire more materials to accommodate our growing enrollment and ensure that we have high-quality tools for our students.

Having a more comprehensive set of studio backgrounds and lighting options will create an even more dynamic and effective learning environment. Your contribution brings us closer to this goal, and we are truly grateful for your support and generosity.”

  • Lenses to See the Future

    Funded Apr 2, 2024

I am deeply appreciative of your generous donation to our project. The addition of these camera lenses has significantly enhanced our photography program. Given the high activity level in our classroom, we occasionally experience damage to our cameras and lenses, necessitating shared equipment among students. Unfortunately, our repair, supply, and equipment budgets are extremely limited.

Our photography program is expanding rapidly, with six full sections this year and waitlists for nearly all of them. As a result, our existing supplies are heavily utilized. We are continually seeking ways to acquire additional materials to accommodate growing enrollment and ensure we have sufficient, high-quality resources for our students.

Having a more comprehensive set of cameras and lenses—our goal being a one-to-one ratio—creates a more dynamic and effective learning environment. Your contribution brings us closer to this goal, and we are truly grateful for your support and generosity.”

  • Film Is Not Dead

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

I am so grateful for the film donated to the students. Without this generous donation of materials my students would not be able to continue analog photography this year. When the students have a chance to work in film photography and develop their own photographs it provides them the opportunity to witness the magic and science of photography first hand.

Photography has become a very popular course here and while we love to be able to reach as many students as possible, unfortunately it is also one of the more expensive electives to run. Having our supplies helped by these amazing donations from Donors Choose projects helps us reach more and more students and allows them additional opportunities to learn and work with the analog film processes. Working with film and printing in the darkroom is not only a learning experience, but an enriching and satisfying experience for young learners. I am so thankful my students are able to continue having this learning experience.”

  • On The Mat with Art and Yoga

    Funded Jun 3, 2022

Thank you for choosing my classroom and students to support with your donation. My students are so lucky to have your generosity.

The yoga mats have been so helpful this year as we are starting a new course with very limited budget and supplies. The students are so happy to have a new mat to frame out a workspace for our class time together. In addition to a safe workspace, the mats provide visuals which are also a valuable learning resource. The yoga mats are not only used for yoga practice, but are used as a comfortable alternate seating area for art making and relaxation. The students have learned about proper care for the mats by removing their shoes before use, using paper under the artwork to protect the surface, to clean the mats with a natural cleaner after use, and how to properly roll and store the mats. My hope is that these yoga mats will have many years of use in our classroom!

Thank you again for choosing my classroom, project and students to support.”

  • Art Gallery Ready

    Funded Dec 13, 2021

We are so grateful for these framing supplies. My students were so excited when the boxes arrived and started planning for art shows where frames are required in many of the local galleries.

So far this year my students were able to exhibit work in 2 gallery art shows (1 more next month) where they were required to submit only framed artwork. At times that can seem very overwhelming and students can become discouraged to participate due to the expense of framing artwork. With these frames and matboard, I was able to inform my students that framing was not an issue thanks to the generosity of the donors.

We are very thankful for your continued support. The frames will be a valuable resource the students will continue to use for years to come.”

  • Warm Beverages for Hard Working Students

    Funded Oct 19, 2021

Thank you so much for your donations to the warm beverage station. When the packages first arrived in the classroom my students were shocked and excited; they could not believe they were getting such a generous and special gift. Now as the months have gotten cooler, the students are even more appreciative as they can warm up with a nice hot cup of cocoa on a cool winter day.

The warm beverage station is a pleasing addition to our classroom. It helps create a welcoming and secure classroom environment. It is available for all students and often times students help make cocoa for each other. Students have even used the beverages and supplies as part of their photography projects! I love to see how creative and innovative my students can be with their surroundings.

Thank you again for choosing my project and students to support. We are truly grateful.”

  • Mice in the Photo Studio!

    Funded Dec 9, 2020

Thank you so much for thoughtful donations to my photography students and my classroom! The mice that were donated greatly impact my students and their editing needs by aiding the students when used to create digital art in an effective and efficient manner when using the Adobe programs. For students who use just the touch pads on the laptops, it is challenging to most when editing detailed work. I feel fortunate to now have the mice to offer my students and they are very grateful to have them. Thank you for your kindness and investing in my students' arts education. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

  • iPads for Student Photographers in Need

    Funded Sep 25, 2020

Thank you so much for choosing to donate to my project. With the uncertainty of this new school year, your donation to my classroom is so welcomed and already being put to good use.

With your generous donations students who are without digital technology, are now given the opportunity to have these new iPads to aid them during their in class and distance learning days. Each student needs to have their own camera and editing device this year and by the addition of these 2 new iPads we have more materials for the students who are in need. For this we are truly thankful.

These iPads are available to be used in school and at home. The students are able to complete their assigned in-school projects and take them home to complete on their at home learning days. The new iPads are indeed an acknowledged addition to our photo classroom.”

  • Printing With a Purpose

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

We are so thankful you donated to our project. The new Chromebook and Epson printer are proving to be vital elements in our classroom. The Chromebook has been used by students for photography projects, as well as for classwork in other areas of studies. Having the Chromebook available for students to directly print when other printing options are not available has proved to be an invaluable resource. The ability for the Epson printer to offer color printing for our art students has also been greatly valued for reference photos, sketchbook assignments and even as part of their AP portfolio preparations. The mobility aspect of having the Chromebook and printer on a cart makes it possible for students to use the printer and tablet around the classroom. We are so grateful for these new additions to the classroom and thank you for your generosity and support.”

My students are 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders enrolled in a rural Northeast high school. Our school is a large public high school with nearly 2700 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with many of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the Northeast. The students I am primarily involved with are extremely creative and enrolled in the Visual Arts program at Westhill.
