As we swiftly approach the end of the school year, we have been planning an extraordinary summer camp for students to attend. With the residue of COVID-19, the learning gaps for our students are much wider than they have been in the past. The goal of the Summer camp is to bridge the gaps and close the instructional divide of our students. Of course, we know the students will not receive ALL they will need to catch up, but we do know we will be able to address many deficits. As the camp coordinator, and considering the few experiences our students are afforded, I have planned for our students to have an exceptional experience. The camp is structured to offer students the opportunity to participate in literacy activities for the first half of the day while reserving the second half for enrichment activities. Several of our activities include an art connection to the camp's Hawaiian theme. With a total of eight classes, the selected items ( art bucket with crayons, markers, colored pencils, paint, paintbrushes, glitter, and more) will be enough to assign each class an entire art kit to service at least 16 students. The materials are requested for school use. However, if the students fail to complete a project during camp, he or she will be allowed to check out materials in a plastic baggie to complete the activity at home.
