Technology Saves The Day

Help me give my students the technology they need to be successful in school. Being a Title 1 school, many of our students canʻt afford headphones and stylus pencils they need to use their chromebooks efficiently.

  • Building Thinking Classrooms

    Funded Oct 16, 2024

Building Thinking Classrooms is a strategy we have been using this year to teach our students math that is both engaging and helps retain the skills that they are learning. The idea is that the students do their math tasks on a vertical surface with a partner sharing a dry erase marker and an eraser. They take turns sharing ideas, writing, calculating and talking. This teaches them to work together, be community contributors, self directed learners and quality producers. The students do a variety of math tasks that progressively get more and more difficult. They love the opportunity to do mat in a different way and share what they learn with the rest of their classmates. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to purchase the vertical whiteboards so we can build thinking classrooms.”

  • Dinosaur Dig

    Funded Nov 18, 2023

My students had been studying fossils in our language arts program. Some of the materials that we received helped give them a hands on opportunity to dig for their own dinosaurs. It was so much fun. They each got a dinosaur egg, chisel, and brush. The chipped and dug for their dinosaur. This really helped them when they had to write their compelling narrative about being a paleontologist. They will always remember this experience. We know that giving children opportunities to use more of their senses the more they will retain the information they have learned.”

  • Small Groups, Big Ideas

    Funded Mar 4, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my students with your donations. The money you gave helped me purchase activities and games to do in smaller groups. They were so excited to see the additions to our classroom.

The games gave the students a chance to play and learn together creating opportunities for fun and for learning to become permanent. We know that learning through games is so important to keep in our long term memory.

Games also give the students a chance to learn how to take turns and how to get along. We are always struggling with the social emotional aspect of education so this is been a godsend.”

  • Get Them Reading

    Funded Nov 1, 2022

I am so sorry that this is so late. Time just got away from me. My studentʻs love these books so much. Every chance they can get they would spend time reading. Their favorite thing to do was to turn out all of the lights and get the flash lights and read. This really inspired them to read in fun new ways. They would find a cozy place in a nook or cranny or under a desk where they could sit in the dark and read in silence. It was an amazing thing to behold. They just had so much fun. We would try to do that every week. They got so much reading time in. It has really made all the difference.”

  • Fine Motor for Funny Friends

    Funded Aug 6, 2021

This funded project has been a heaven sent. The kids love the time they spend building and using their imagination. They get so excited when they have the opportunity to build and explore. Ryder says, "I love playing with my friends and I get to use my imagination to build something out of this world."

The manipulative are organized in such a way that the students have to work together to complete a given task or decide on what to build. The fact that Covid has kept the kids away from each other has really hurt them socially. This gives them the opportunity to work together and practice their social skills.

It has been an all around wonderful experience.”

  • Book Nook

    Funded Jun 30, 2017

Aloha, thank you so much for you kind and generous donations to our classroom library. Before I started with Donor's Choose my book area was so sad and boring. The students couldn't really read the titles of the books and the shelf was in an awkward area of the room. I had to do a lot of new configuring of classroom furniture to find the perfect area for our new and welcoming Book Nook. Now the area is clean, accessible, comfortable, and cozy. The students choose to go there in their free time. It's a wonderful feeling to know that an organization is out there to help our students get the items they need to be successful.”

A lot of my students are struggling readers. I try really hard to get them interested in picking a good fit book from our classroom library. I rarely will find them picking a book up on their own and reading it as a free choice. Unfortunately, our classroom library is not aesthetically appealing. I'm requesting Help-Yourself Book Bins and a Storage Center for all our books. I wish to create a space with new shelves and organized books for our classroom library. Eventually, I would like to add pretty rugs and comfortable chairs. I want it to be a cozy place for them to want to go and read independently, a place they choose to go to.
