This project is about hope. In a few days, as recovery efforts continue, schools will slowly begin to reopen, and my classroom will once again be alive with the sound of children. I look forward to that day. However, I expect that morale will be low and any momentum of engagement I gained since the start of school might have dwindled. Disaster has a way of doing this to us. However, my goal is to overcome this low, by providing every child in my classroom and around the school that was affected by the devastation, with a package of hope. My students already have a huge set of obstacles to overcome, but I am determined to ensure that a lack of resources is not one of those obstacles. Please help me re-awaken my students’ dreams and aspirations with a small package of hope. We all know the exciting feeling the start of a new school year brings; new pencils, fresh erasers, and the smell of crisp notebook paper. I want my students to relive that start of the year feeling and see this moment in their lives, as a fresh start. That losing everything can sometimes mean gaining a second chance to rebuild and reimagine the future. That maybe now we know what is most important in life, and that together we are stronger.
