We all know there's more to be learned than what you find within the four walls of a classroom or covers of a book. For my world history students (grade 9) visiting historic places is just not an option. Our inner city school (a charter school for grades 6-12) is in a gang-ridden, drug infested, high crime city in N.J. Approx. 85% of the students are African American or Hispanic. Keeping our kids safe is a priority. To compete in the global workforce of tomorrow, my students need to be exposed to the wider world. Most have never been on a train, a boat, or a plane. The World Is Our Classroom seeks to expose our students to what is possible, and to aspire to make it happen.
