  • Child Abuse and Neglect-A Necessary Lesson

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of the classroom set of "A Child Called It". This book always makes a big impact on my students and helps them connect with the content on another level.

We were able to read the book, discuss and apply the concepts learned in class to David and his story. Students were also able to count this lesson as part of their English grade by taking an Accelerated Reader test.

I cannot say how grateful I am to finally have this class set. This will allow me to continue teaching the importance of understanding child abuse and neglect in our community and state. I know the students have learned so much from this experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennard

  • Multi-Cultural Books For Teacher Cadet Classroom

    Funded Jun 19, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation of multi-cultural books for my classroom. Due to Covid 19 we are late getting our projects completed, and have had to adjust multiple times as we transition from face to face to virtual learning. My students have loved having the opportunity to read these books about cultures different from their own. We have been able to compare and contrast using Venn Diagrams and have created art pieces depicting the cultures in the books. Even though we have had to make adjustments, the availability of these resources has made a huge impact on how my students view each other and those in the community. We will continue to learn from these materials in the coming weeks. Again. Thank you again for your generous donations.”

    Mrs. Kennard

  • Self-Esteem Books for Teacher Cadet

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. It took us quite a while to be able to use the materials due to being sent home early last year. This year my students have been able to use these children's books to learn about self-esteem and its impact on learning. The students read the books, evaluated them, created advertisements for them, and created puppet shows. We were able to go to the elementary school and perform the puppet shows for the early grades. The students loved this project, and I could not have done it without your help. Thank you so much for all you do in support of education.”

  • Industry Certifications Needed

    Funded Aug 25, 2019

Thank you so much for helping us gain our industry certifications by providing us the materials we need. Currently we are running at a ninety percent pass rate on both Food Safety and Financial Literacy Certifications with many students still to test. Having an extra laptop in our classroom is a great help when technical difficulties arise. Students are gaining essential skills needed for the work place and for having a strong family unit and it is all because of your support. Thank you for allowing me to provide my students with the very best.”

  • Food Insecurity And The Food Dilemma

    Funded Sep 7, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. After reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma", my students researched food insecurity in their community. They took action and raised $250 for the local food pantry and have plans to volunteer their time over the holidays to serve those in need. By utilizing literacy in the classroom, students are better able to connect to the deeper meaning behind where our food comes from and how that affects their community and their quality of living. It has been an "aha" moment for me, watching my students really dive into community service and helping others. I cannot thank you enough for allowing this lesson to take place.”

  • Teacher Cadet Books on Self-Esteem

    Funded Sep 11, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. My love for reading is evident in my teaching style. I enjoy incorporating literature into classroom projects to enhance the curriculum. "The Hurried Child" is a great resource for my teacher cadet students. They have learned many aspects of child development and how play facilitates learning and self-esteem. After reading "The Hurried Child", each student has a new perspective on not only teaching but how children should be cared for. Again, thank you for providing this resource to my students.”

  • Investing in Human Capital

    Funded May 2, 2019

My students had a blast learning about human capital through Naledi's journey. As 9th grade students , they are now learning how much their education means for their future career goals. Not only have they begun to see what education can do for them, but they have a better global understanding of the opportunities that are available to them in the United States.

In addition to learning about human capital and careers, we took a closer look at Naledi's journey. We compared 300 kilometers from Jo'berg and 300 kilometers from Little Rock, and how that translated to miles. Students also took Accelerated reader tests on the book that they could count for their English classes.

Thank you so much for this awesome opportunity!”

  • Minimum Equipment for Family and Consumer Sciences

    Funded Feb 11, 2019

My students have had so much fun with their sewing and cooking projects this year. It has been a nice change for them to have all the equipment they need. This year we have had only one iron and less than 20 aprons to accommodate multiple classes, some with more than 20 students enrolled. Thanks to your support, we have been able to work more efficiently and effectively. We have been able to have more lab experiences because of the time saved sharing equipment or waiting on clean aprons. We are so thankful for people like you that see the value in the skills developed in the Family and Consumer Sciences Classroom.”

  • The Science and Technology Behind the Fabric

    Funded Dec 7, 2018

My Clothing II class has had a wonderful time working with this kit. This project was set up as a "Forensic Files" game in which students were tasked with solving a mystery using the fiber clues. Not only were they able to complete the project, but they learned about a career in the textiles industry. They were also able to apply the skills they learned in their science classes.

When students first received the package, they were so excited to get to start and do something besides the everyday sewing projects. This project took them above and beyond the expectations of the standards. I even had one student who mentioned doing this as a career.

These students have been amazing at taking what they learn to the next level. I plan to let them experiment with sewing with circuits in the near future. Again, thank you so much for your generous donations.”

  • Digital Learning in a Digital World

    Funded Jul 27, 2018

Using technology in my classroom is a game changer. The digital camera that you funded, has already begun to change the way students approach their projects. They take more pride in their finished products and plan for that documentation piece. In the future, students will be able to take the camera to local, state, and national competitions to document their successes in numerous projects.

Students are excited about being able to post their projects to social media and to share with their parents and guardians. The parents are also more engaged in the classroom because they are able to see what their child is doing in school. At the high school level, the parental connection to the classroom is often times lost. I am so excited to keep them involved.”
