I could give you all of the statistics and studies that explain why reading for pleasure is important for emotional and psychological growth, among many other valuable life factors, but instead let me allow my students tell you why they deserve your kindness through donations: "It would make me feel inspired to read because people are putting money for us to have books." "They should donate to us because a lot of us don't have access to public libraries or have time in the day to go find one in our own school library." "So we don't have to wait around for a book to come [to our own library]." "It is important because [our school] does not have that many blessed kids and a lot of them are not able to afford [books for the classroom.]" "Because some people don't like to read and we need books to help kids read and like books." "To make non or casual readers into lifelong readers." "As students we're given free public education, but with no driving force we will not know how to best access our potential. Without inspiration, we are missing a great opportunity at striving to reach our full potential. Everyone needs a 'god that looks like them.' With a variety of literature, especially contemporary and youth based literature readily available - teens can find role models facing similar circumstances and be inspired to use the gifts they're given to rocket off on their own novel journey." No one can say it as well as my munchkins. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our plea!
