My students are English Language Learners who have a desire for learning everything. As they learn to master yet another language, social justice plays an important role on how and what we learn in class. I often say to the students, "It's important to me that you are good students but it's even more important to me that you are a good person." Our school is located in Roxbury, MA. Our school is 100% free lunch. Many of our families are in the range of high poverty. Many of my students do not have access to basic items so access to books is at the bottom of their lists. Many parents work 2 jobs just to support the basic needs of their families. At our school, we believe that none of that should get in the way of being successful. Every student should have access to literature that represents them and who they really are; amazing multicultural young people.
