My students have never had the opportunity to dissect anything. The Owl pellet experience is one that I recall when I think of the moments that science became real and interesting. Engaging students is my focus, but allowing them a real learning experience is my goal. This resource would allow them to draw on previous lessons about body systems and use that knowledge to determine the food web that the owl is a part of. This lesson will fill a 2 week segment of time allowing the students to research owl digestion, bone structures of rodents, and food webs of birds of prey. Skeletal reconstruction will also happen.
