  • A Cozy Place to Crash

    Funded Feb 22, 2025

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation. Because of you, my Kindergarten students will have a safe place to jump, roll, and crash. They no longer need to climb furniture to get their sensory input. You are going to significantly impact their lives. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Curcio

  • A Slam Dunk to Help Students Succeed

    Funded Jun 5, 2015

My students are absolutely thrilled with the resources they received. They describe the materials as "exciting," "amazing," and "motivating." Students are constantly asking to play with the Lego's, basketballs, basketball hoops, and read the Minecraft series.

Currently, students are using the resources during choice time and recess. The materials are distributed in different centers. For example, the basketball hoop/basketballs are used in the 'sports center,' Minecraft books are used in the 'reading center,' and Lego's are used in the 'game center.' For those students who did not earn choice time/recess due to incompletion of homework or lack of participation, they are actively making up their work throughout the day in order to earn some play time. In the past, students were not motivated enough to complete their work. The resources have sparked desire and motivation to remain on task in order to maximize their learning.

My students' behavior has drastically improved since the materials have arrived. The basketball hoops and basketballs are an all-time favorite and students constantly 'work for' basketball games. Their new favorite basketball game is "pig." In addition to an improvement in behavior, my students' socialization and play skills have increased. Students are learning the importance of taking turns, having patience, and using nice words, such as, "please" and "thank you." The resources are a great teaching tool for teamwork: cooperation, collaboration, and playing appropriately with peers. Oftentimes, I am not provided with much opportunity to teach social games and basic skills of playing/speaking to one another appropriately. Thanks to your generosity, I am now able to expand my students' social-emotional learning. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Curcio

Our students are classified as Emotionally Disturbed, Learning Disabled, and/or Autistic. Many of them are economically disadvantaged and are not exposed to, or provided with much opportunity to explore their community and purchase items they need to support their interests. A typical day requires engaging students academically, socially, and emotionally by forming deep relationships with them on a personal and professional level. Our students have low motivation and struggle with managing their emotions and behaviors, which significantly interfere with their academic ability and progress. Students respond well to verbal praise and positive reinforcement; however, they require highly motivating, engaging rewards to be respectful, responsible, and safe throughout the school day. The ultimate goal is for students to obtain intrinsic motivation to follow directions and complete work; however, they currently require tangible items, which will eventually be faded out to promote independence
