Let's Give Them Something to Talk About Part 2
Funded Feb 28, 2009February 6th of this year was my 2nd anniversary of when I first started teaching. In the two years I have been teaching Spanish in a New York City public high school I have tried my best to find engaging ways to teach the fundamentals of the Spanish language. At times I am successful and students are both interested and learning, while at other times not so much. Your donation to my goal of obtaining a cart for my classroom has already benefited my students and their learning so much. I was amazed at how engaged students were when we used the cart to present projects with our projector. It was really quite incredible. The cart helps me fulfill the goal of having everyone focused and able to see what other students are presenting to the class.
My students had no idea I had submitted anything to donors choose, or even of the existence of donors choose. When I explained the concept of the website to them, they were so surprised that such a site even existed. I then told them that a proposal I had submitted was fully funded and that different people, some who I know personally and others that I don't know had helped out, they were shocked. They asked me things like: "Ms. Thomas, someone really donated $50 to us?" "To our class? In this school? But our school isn't a rich school!" I explained to them that yes, people selected my proposal for my classes at our school to fund. It was really an uplifting conversation to have that day.
The support of donors like you really does make a great difference in what and how I teach. Thanks to your generosity, I am going to be able to use this cart for so many things and for years to come.
Again, thank you so much, ”

Ms. Thomas

Funded Jan 26, 2009February 6th of this year was my 2nd anniversary of when I first started teaching. In the two years I have been teaching Spanish in a New York City public high school I have tried my best to find engaging ways to teach the fundamentals of the Spanish language. At times I am successful and students are both interested and learning, while at other times not so much. Your donation to my goal of obtaining teen and children's books in Spanish for my classroom has already benefited my students and their learning so much. I was amazed at how excited my students were when we used the books to understand past tense verbs in the context of a story. It was also fun for them to read books they loved as children, again in a second language, they had a great time! It was really quite incredible. The books really fulfilled the goal of having my students use the Spanish language.
T, someone really donated $200 to us?" "To our class? In this school? But our school isn't a rich school!" I explained to them that yes, people selected my proposal for my classes at our school to fund. It was really an uplifting conversation to have that day.
The support of donors like you really does make a great difference in what and how I teach. Thanks to your generosity, I am going to be able to use these books for many purposes in all of my classes and for years to come.

Funded Nov 21, 2008Thank you so much for taking the time to read my proposal and for donating to a group of kids that I believe in and care about a lot. I am overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. When I told my students about DonorsChoose.org they were at first shocked that something like this exists, and then doubtful that any of my projects would be funded. I am so excited to tell them that we were funded and we will be doing a fun art project! This comes at a perfect time as we have learned and practiced all the vocabulary and grammar. Now we can do something artsy with a cultural connection. I cannot wait to actually do the Painting Like Picasso project with them and decorate our room with their artwork. This will serve as a wonderful reminder not only to me but also to them of your generosity. Thank you again, and I cannot wait to see how this project turns out. :”

Exploring Dr. Seuss in Spanish!
Funded Nov 14, 2008I just found out that my project has been fully funded. Thank you so much! I am overwhelmed by your heart-felt generosity. I tried my best to describe in my proposal the many ways this document camera will help me and my students. However, since posting I have thought of so many other ways to use this. I am almost overwhelmed by the windows of opportunity you have opened to me and my classes. In addition to showing actual color pages from children's books, I can now also supplement my lessons with pictures or advertisements. Before, doing these little extra things was very difficult and time consuming if not impossible.
Thank you so much.
Eric”
