Thank you so much for the supplies. My students were so excited, and are still so excited about the work they have been able to do because of this. The concept of how light travels through the eye is an extremely hard concept for my students to grasp but this project allowed them to really grasp it. As a class and as an eighth grade, there was constant excitement about the cow eyes and they are still talking about the lab despite it being done almost a month ago. I had parents calling and emailing me expressing the excitement to participate in the lab. We were even able to save some eyes to do the eye dissection at a Parent Night.
This project has caused a change in my students. They know that we are going to go above and beyond in order for them to learn and ultimately succeed. My students did extremely well on assessments involving how light traveled through the eye and how light worked in general. Many of them were fascinated and it has definitely put what we are learning into perspective for them. We are so grateful! Thank you for the absolutely awesome experience!”
I teach eighth grade in a high "Free and Reduced Lunch" area. My students love to be active and love to learn about how the topics we learn in science relate to them. For most of my students, science is their favorite subject. Whenever we have a demonstration or participate in a lab, they are so excited to come to class. Many of them dream of working in a science field and as middle schoolers, many of them are trying to figure out what they want to do and who they want to be when they grow up. As a middle school, we really foster allowing the students to be able to make their own choices and give them the opportunity to find out all about themselves and their goals in life. Our school goes above and beyond to make sure our students are prepared in education and life and creates many choices for students to discover themselves. We were even a "Cool School" on the local news! Our students are wonderful and deserve to be given even more opportunities.
