My school was fortunate enough to be apart of a technology grant that allowed students to access their own personal Chromebooks daily. Through this opportunity my 5th grade team has utilized this new technology and its benefits across content areas. Students have become innovated, determined, and critical thinkers through this amazing opportunity.
Unfortunately, my school's laptop has not been able to keep up with my students and their full potential. It has caught several viruses, needed a new keyboard, and has been wiped of its data several times. My computer is now being serviced for the 5th time, and because of this, I have been out of a computer for the past few weeks. In an attempt to be proactive I am seeking help so I no longer have to acclimate to the presence vs. absence of a laptop in a classroom where we have learned to be 21st century learners.
I am excited and optimistic about the possibilities of a new, reliable computer that can be used to instruct, guide, and provide proper supports for students to access and network as a community. With having a new computer or HAVING A COMPUTER I will be able to: design graphic organizers to support English Language Learners, utilize the Promethean board for whole group lessons, shared reading, shared writing, research, and implement google classroom (in order to engage, reflect, and collaborate as an online
community). NOT having a computer has crippled my students learning. I am unable to show videos, provide feedback to their writing and been unable to give them new and creative ways to learn and share their thinking.
