Thank you sooo much for helping fun Food for Brain Fuel. I can’t wait to share this wonderful news with my students. They will be so excited to have a a variety of snack options to keep their bellies full so their minds can focus on learning. • Tell Me a Story

    Funded Jan 13, 2025

My students and I have begun using some of the materials, specifically the blue storytime board and the Old MacDonald Farmer and animals. My younger students have responded so positively to the materials. They enjoy being able to manipulate the Velcro characters as we sing along to Old MacDonald Had a Farm. As I engage in shared reading experiences with select picture books, I will be introducing the other character sets that match the books soon, e.g. (The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Three Bears, The Little Red Hen, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, No David, Pete the Cat, The Rainbow Fish, and The Snowy Day). I am excited to use these materials to begin reinforcing story sequence and encouraging my students to use their language to practice telling stories. Thank you again for your generosity and for helping make learning fun with these hands-on materials!”

  • Snacks to Fuel Learning

    Funded Oct 19, 2024

My students were so excited to see all of the snack options. We took a vote to decide which snacks to give out first, and there was a tie between cookies and gummies. After we tossed a coin, heads for cookies and tails for gummies. Cookies won! So I snapped a few pics of my cookie monsters with them. We'll take another vote soon to see which snacks we will open next. Thank you for helping fund this project and allowing my students to have snack options to fuel their day and give them energy they need for learning.”

  • Books to Build Critical Thinking

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

My students enjoyed reading each of the books funded on this project! The books got my student's thinking critically as they asked and answered many out-side-the-box questions that challenged them to see different perspectives, consider the concepts of motive/intention, and engage in problem-solving. Some of the questions posed a challenge to certain students because they required more time to process and consider information before forming a response. So many of my student struggle to sit patiently and engage in the deeper thought processes that cognitively-demanding questions require, so much so that I had to explore the concept of questions and get them to understand that some questions are easy and quick to answer, while others are more complex and require depth of thought. Thank you for helping me enhance their executive functioning and critical thinking skills!”

  • Movement to Motivate Learning

    Funded Sep 7, 2023

My students are having so much fun using the materials you helped purchase. The egg spoon race is being used to help them practice their speech language goals by having them practice saying their target sounds/words as they walk around the therapy table balancing their egg on a spoon. This has been such a hit with the students, and has motivated them tremendously. The added benefit is that this also helps with their hand-eye coordination and with controlled movement of the body (which is such a bonus for my students who struggle with regulation of their physical movements). The tug-of-war rope is being used to facilitate healthy competition toward goal accuracy, in that two students will grab either end of the rope and will get to move back for each task they complete correctly (e.g. following a directive, producing a target word/sound, answering questions, etc. The rope gets marked in the middle and the first person to bring the mark to the spot where they were standing at the start is the winner. The hop sacks and agility rings are being used in a similar manner in that each student gets to hop/jump to a ring every time they complete a task correctly and the first student to make it to a marked finish line wins!”

  • Help Us Find Our Voices

    Funded May 22, 2023

Thank you for helping my students find their voices by generously donating to provide them with microphones to use in their speech therapy sessions. Many of my students struggle to project their voices and require constant reminders to speak louder so they can be heard. When I introduced the microphones to them, they were so excited to try them out. They were more engaged and very excited to hear their voices sound louder and clearer. Some were a bit shy and whispered into the microphone, but as they got more comfortable using the microphone, they gradually began to speak louder. Some of them said they were surprised by how their voices sounded, almost as though they were only really hearing themselves for the first time. Our voices are powerful tools that can exact change, and I know my students are getting more comfortable letting their voice be heard thanks to these microphones. Thank you again for your support :)”

  • Stickers for Hard Work

    Funded May 30, 2023

My students were so excited when I showed them all of the stickers and bookmarks. One of them got up from his seat and started dancing when I showed his all of the stickers. There are so many cool options for them to pick from to decorate their folders, and the scented bookmarks were a hit! All of the stickers and bookmarks were of great quality and are motivating my students to come to school each day so that they don't miss an opportunity to add to their folder's sticker collection. Thank you for your consideration of this project, and for your generous donations that helped make Stickers for Hard Work a reality for my kiddos :)”

My goal with this project is to secure therapy materials and resources to help my students develop executive functioning skills--a set of crucial life skills that allow us to complete tasks and solve problems. Many of my student's struggle with attention, working memory, impulse control, planning/organizing tasks, and cognitive flexibility--all of which are sub-skills of executive functioning and all of which affect their ability to effectively use their thinking to learn, make connections, and carry out tasks. My students will use books and structured games like Taboo Junior and Snake Oil to strengthen their executive functioning skills, and in turn, develop and reflect on the language that is used in their thought processes to achieve metacognition. The books I have selected will be used to teach my students about planning/organizing, analyzing cause/effect as it relates to their chosen actions, and how to control their impulses. The games I have selected will facilitate attention, working memory, and cognitive flexibility. I have also selected a resource that will assist with increasing my knowledge of strategies to assist my student's with building these skills. A big thank you to anyone who is able and willing to support the growth of my students!
