  • STEMtastic Hands-on Learning for 2nd Grade!

    Funded Oct 27, 2022

My students are over the moon with our new STEM kits. I have used the materials as a rotation so table groups rotate to experience the different types of materials. This allows students to use their imaginations to construct different things, i.e., cars, planes, monsters, houses, etc. The students have also used them with partners so they have to collaborate and design something together. I've also incorporated writing into this project. Once students have developed a design, they can write a story about it. Or they can write how they came up with their design.

When I first brought out our new STEM supplies, the smiles on their faces lit up the room. They were beyond excited. And they still get so much joy building,

    collaborating, inventing, and

developing. Some of my reluctant writers are willing to write more as well.

My next steps are to have students design a project and write or draw out the steps. Then they can have classmates reconstruct the designs. I can keep these directions/plans for my future classes to use.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Empson

  • Diverse Read Alouds for a Compassionate Classroom

    Funded Apr 3, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity to my book project. My students will get so much enjoyment hearing these wonderful stories for years to come. These stories will lead to many positive discussions and writing opportunities for the students. Thank you for taking the time to read about my project. Your donations are greatly appreciated.”

  • Distance Learning Support

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

I know I am past my deadline due date, but I still wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" for the donation of my mobile white board. Distance learning for myself and students has been a challenge. Trying to keep students engaged and excited about learning has its challenges. This challenge has been made a little easier with the use of my new mobile white board.

What's so great about this white board is it allows me to teach in different areas of my classroom. I can move the white board with me when I need to utilize areas of my room. It also serves as a way to hang up posters or charts given its magnetic as well. This allows my students to visually see pertinent information we are studying. And I don't have to try and hold up posters the entire time. The size of the white board is great too because students can get a bigger picture of what we are working on.

I just want to say thank you for the donation of the mobile white board. It has allowed my students to stay engaged and take a more active role in learning during online class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Empson

With the new norm being distance learning, my students are going to need to be engaged and on task. Many students are visual learners, and a mobile white board and easel will help me teach my lessons online. I am currently setting up my at-home classroom. A white board that is large enough for everyone to see will be essential in delivering my lessons and keeping students engaged. A white board will also allow me to model and demonstrate math, writing, and phonics lessons. Now that I will be teaching online in the fall with a new group of students that I most likely won't be able to meet in person, I need to be able to deliver my lessons with ease and in a way that students can follow along.
