  • Happy to Have Headphones

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

These headphones have made such a difference to my students! Everyday we are using our iPads to use exciting programs that help us in learning. Having headphones makes it possible for each student to stay focused on his/her own iPad. It has reduced the amount of extra noise while students are completing their independent assignments.

The headphones are especially helpful for my students with sensory issues. The ability to cancel the noise around them and specifically concentrate on their own assignment has been so beneficial for these students.

Finally, the ability to control the volume on the headphones is fantastic. Students are able to increase or decrease volume depending on their individual needs.

Thank you so much for these headphones!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Den Hartog

  • Bringing Color to a Black and White World EdTech Science

    Funded Oct 1, 2019

Thanks to a grant from my School District, and a match by you, I was able to fulfill my classroom's need of colored pencils. These have been instrumental in Science, because my students were able to use the colors to differentiate on graphs, make their projects more colorful, and help with daily vocabulary activities.

Many of my students aren't used to having nice materials to use, so the fact that 2 boxes were ordered was awesome! I was able to fill group material baskets so that each group would have daily access to use them at will.”

  • Test Prep Supplies

    Funded Mar 29, 2019

Thank you for your generosity. When i created this project last year, my students were preparing to take the state tests. We were using the resources purchased to help students review math concepts while having fun.

The markers and whiteboards provided my students with the opportunity to practice math concepts. We were able to make our review time fun! Students took pride in getting an answer, and trying to be the first to show me! I believe this method of review greatly helped my students on their state exam.

This year, my students are still able to enjoy the whiteboards. We use them during intervention groups, and the kids really like the competition it encourages.”

  • Scholars Need Binders!

    Funded Dec 7, 2018

When we returned to school after the Winter Break, the first thing I heard was, "When are our binders coming?"! The students had been looking forward to receiving these materials the entire time they were out of school. It was awesome that we received our supplies on the 2nd day we were back.

When I passed out the binders, dividers, and paper, the students' excitement was palpable! They immediately began personalizing and decorating their binders. We, as a class, set up the binders to allow for maximum benefit, and have been successfully using them daily since! although it has only been a few days, the difference these supplies have made for my students has been amazing. Students who previously misplaced assignments and/or didn't turn in assignments are better organized, and showing more responsibility.

All of my students are sincerely grateful, and on their behalf, I extend our heartfelt appreciation.”

  • Go Ahead and Turn Up the Volume!

    Funded Feb 8, 2018

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project! My students are very excited to have headphones available to use in class. I am looking forward to having a quiet room during iPad time, instead of hearing 25 different iPads. Your generosity and desire to help my students and myself is extremely appreciated.”

  • Artists in the Making!!!

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

Thank you so much for your generosity in funding our class project "Artists in the Making!!!". The class has been using the materials purchased each week to engage in lessons about drawing and creating pictures. Each Friday, I set aside about 45 minutes for the class to view a lesson on a great YouTube channel called "Art for Kids Hub". The artist and one of his children lead the class in a lesson about drawing something that the kids really enjoy, such as favorite characters, animals, and foods.

When the materials arrived, the students' faces lit up! They were so excited to see the class set of colored pencils and markers for their use. Some of them are truly gifted artists, and using the coloring supplies has not only increased the beauty of their art, but has even increased their motivation.

Thanks to your generosity, my students will be able to enjoy exploring their creativity each week through art. Thank you so much for making this possible.”

  • Can You Make a Copy?

    Funded Jan 14, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity! My class has greatly benefited from having our own copy machine. We are able to pursue studies beyond the textbooks, do daily math facts tests, and have a lot of creative freedom and the ability to be spontaneous with fun projects.

The students know that I'm able to make copies of things like permission slips when they are misplaced. This has saved many tears from my students!

Again, thank you for your contribution to my class's success! The copier will be used for years to come.”

  • We Want To Write!

    Funded Oct 7, 2013

Thank you so much for your generosity! My students were so excited to receive our supplies! The special three sided pencils have greatly helped my students who have trouble holding the pencils the correct way. I have seen a tremendous improvement in many of my students' handwriting. Additionally, the paper that I requested is perfect for their developmental stage. The lines provide the correct size for the children to make letters. This is so important to the development of proper handwriting skills. Some of the paper has a blank at the top, which has afforded the opportunity to illustrate our writing. We were able to use the paints over the holidays, and are looking forward to many more art projects in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Den Hartog

  • We Want to Succeed in Reading and Writing in English!

    Funded Feb 18, 2012

I again want to extend my sincere thanks to you. Without your generosity, my students would not have the great items purchased through Donors Choose.

The most versatile item has to be the student whiteboards. We have used them daily for phonics lessons and math. The students love to use the boards just like their teacher! The headphones are also used everyday. We have two computers in the classroom, and the students work with a phonics and reading program daily. With the listen and speak headphones, each student is able to focus completely on their computer time without being distracted by the class.

Finally, the writing paper has been used to generate beautiful stories written by the students. The lines and margins are the perfect size for their abilities, which is nice. The school's paper has lines that are either too wide or too narrow.

Thank you so much for your support. With the help from wonderful people such as yourselves, our public schools will continue to provide an excellent environment for all children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Den Hartog

My school is in one of the poorest and most violent cities in Southern California. All of the school qualifies for free lunch, and the majority of the students live at or below the poverty level. Many of our students have parents who are incarcerated or deceased. Despite having multiple odds stacked against them, they still come to school eager to learn.
