  • Hubbard Community Garden: Growing Minds One Seed at a Time.

    Funded Oct 16, 2020

Our community garden has had such a positive impact on our school community! Students have loved constructing, planting and tending to our garden. They take daily tours and discuss the changes they see and what they believe has created those changes ie: sunshine, increased moisture, wind, and love.

My students were and remain so excited by this project. It has brought so much joy to our entire school community. It has also inspired other projects, such as a sensory path through the garden, a rock garden, and other garden beds being placed in other areas on campus.

Thank you so so much for supporting these amazing kids! They are so deserving and so appreciative!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tindell

  • Serenity Now!

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

Thank you so much for helping us change lives for the better at Hubbard Elementary in Noble Oklahoma. Allowing our students access to a sensory room has had such a positive impact and we are so incredibly grateful!

My students were over the moon when they first saw our new sensory room and continue to use the materials daily, some students, many times a day. Students are allowed to access the sensory room anytime they are in need a break or a moment to recalibrate, and/or need time with one of our school counselors. Some students have developed behavior contracts with their classroom teachers to be allowed to visit the sensory room after exhibiting desired behavior or completing specific tasks. We have seen a decrease in behavior referrals since we began using our sensory room, have seen fewer meltdowns from several of our students with special and unique learning needs, and have observed an overall positive impact in terms of student morale.

Having an indoor sensory room has inspired us to extend our space and to create a sensory space outside as well. This space is located in the courtyard right outside of our counseling wing and indoor sensory room. We are in the process of building a sensory garden, sensory walk, and sensory patio for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tindell

Every student in my school will benefit from a sensory room. Students are facing a great amount of stress and unknown this year. They have lived through something that none of us have had to experience in our lifetimes. Because of this, they are coming to use with additional anxiety, fear, and the effects of trauma. Through a variety of lessons students will be taught to recognize physiological signs of stress, as well self-regulation techniques and coping strategies. Students will begin to recognize when they are in need of a break in order to regain control and a sense of emotional safety. Students who are in need of a break will be allowed to access the sensory room and choose an activity which will allow them to regain homeostasis and control of their thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behavior. This will allow students to proactively address moments of stress in a productive way, rather than in maladaptive or reactive ways, which could have a lasting negative impact. By giving my students a sensory room, I am giving them a safe place to just be. A place to find peace and serenity. A place to recalibrate and refocus in order to be ready and willing to learn.
