  • Building A Love for Literacy

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you for your generous donations. My students are thrilled to be able to have a functioning listening center! These books and CDs are now available for our center time everyday! The students are center to. Be able to read books independently. They feel such pride in being able to press play on the listening center and be able to read with their friends. I have noticed an increased interest in reading books after the inclusion of our listening center. The students are able to practice book handling skills, such as holding books correctly, reading from left to right and pointing to words as they read.”

  • Diverse Picture Books

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

We were thrilled to receive all of our items. The books have been a great addition to our classroom. The children were excited to see new books that have characters that represent their culture. They were also quite amazed that some of the books had English and Spanish text!

The children have opportunities to read on multiple occasions fo the day. They will often request that teachers re-read some of their favorite texts. Some friends are even able to use the pictures to retell some of the books that have become familiar.

These books will be cherished, and will also benefit of my future students.

We sincerely appreciate your generous donation.”

  • Encouraging Artistic Expression

    Funded Dec 17, 2020

My students were thrilled when we received our materials! I opened the boxes of materials with them, and they were excited to see new paintbrushes, crayons and markers! These are materials that we use on a daily basis. These materials will help students to create vibrant pictures and artwork that they are proud to display around the classroom.

These resources help me to encourage artistic expression in a safe manner. The individualized containers are very helpful in keeping student materials separate. This is an important aspect of our safety to reduce the spread of germs during Covid-19. My students store play-dough in the individualized container, as well as markers and crayons. When they engage in art activities, they simply grab their individualized container and can access their individualized drawing materials.

Thank you so much for you support and generous donations. My students deserve this and so much more. We are truly grateful!”

  • Math Tools for Success!

    Funded Feb 3, 2017

My students were ecstatic to receive these math tools for success. It truly has set them up for a triumphant experience. They especially love the base 10 place value packets. This helps students solidify Thoth understanding place value and how to regroup. This manipulative has provided the tactile experience many students need in order to make sense of place value. I witnessed many "ah-ha" moments where this tool has helped students make connections between a digit and it's place value gaining a deeper and more meaningful understanding of numbers. The clipboards have supported student independence and ownership to allow them to work on a comfortable space, such as the rug or beanbag. The expo markers have given them the opportunity to use marker boards to solve math problems in whole groups, small groups and independently.

Thank you again for your generous donations.”

  • Art And Creativity

    Funded Jul 23, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your generous contributions! Although I wrote this proposal as pre-k teacher, I am still able to utilize these supplies in a meaningful way for my 2nd grade class. In 2nd grade, the children are building their skills in reading, writing and math, and these artistic materials help to add some creativity and fun into their days. My children are grateful to have high-quality markers to add details to their work. For example, the children recently published their first writing piece in class and were able to create lovely illustrations with the availability of fine tip markers.

We have also used the mosaic tiles, buttons and yarn throughout our math workshop. For example, the children are practicing different counting strategies. Instead of counting familiar items that we have in the classroom such as cubes, they are able to count, sort and create patterns with the materials we received from this project. This creates a new level of excitement and and increased level of engagement. The smallest things really do make them happy!

We are eager to use the water color paper and watercolors set. We have various projects coming up, such as holiday crafts and unit projects such as creating maps. Opportunities to use watercolors and paint during this time will allow children to be creative and learn through another medium. We truly appreciate your support. Thank you once again!”

  • Cooking Multicultural Cuisine with Preschoolers

    Funded Sep 7, 2015

Thank you for your generous donations that allowed pre-k to have the necessary tools to cook in class. The children are always excited and eager to mix, stir and measure ingredients when we cook. We used the Nuwave Precision Cooktop on multiple occasions. For example, we steamed some broccoli so that children could have the opportunity to taste a healthy vegetable. We also used it to make hot chocolate on a cold winter day. The Ninja Mega Kitchen System has allowed us to make smoothies, and various types of dips such as guacamole and pesto sauce.

These materials will be very helpful as pre-k children work together to transform our classroom into a functioning restaurant. We will used the items that you funded to create various dishes that we will then serve to children's families and the school staff.

You have created opportunities for children to engage in mathematical and scientific thinking while enjoying cooking activities. Your donations are truly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sinanan

  • Capturing Memories

    Funded Mar 20, 2015

Thank you so much for your contribution to this project. The children and adults were very excited about receiving this high-quality digital camera. This camera allows me to capture moments and memories of the children at play. I use these photographs to document student work, and as a form of assessment. The children also ask me to photograph their structures at the block center, or with magnatiles since we are not able to keep them up for long periods of time due to space limitations. Lastly, I used the photographs from this camera to create a photobook for each child to remember their time in pre-k as an end of the year gift. I really do appreciate your support!”

  • Listening Center

    Funded Mar 17, 2015

Thank you so much for supporting my project. The children were very excited to be able to use the listening center during choice time. They also have access to the listening center during breakfast and snack time. It's a quiet activity that is engaging and supports literacy skills, such as pointing to each word as they listen to the story. The children are beginning to recognize some sight words, while utilizing the listening center. They feel proud and confident by their success. Thank you again for your contribution!”

  • Building Our Gross Motor Skills!

    Funded Jul 8, 2014

The children in my class were thrilled upon receiving the trikes! Their facial expressions were priceless. Some children had both hands placed on their checks with their mouth open exuding pure joy! Others smiled and giggled saying " Looks its a bike, a bike!" as their jumped up and down and hugged each other in excitement. They were all eager to have a turn to ride the trikes.

My students have been using the trikes during gross motor play on a daily basis. They have become accustomed to putting on a helmet to ensure their safety while they ride. They enjoy being able to ride, or to sit on the back seat while a friend rides the taxi-trike.

This project allowed me to boost my teaching and the children's learning in various ways. In my classroom, we always encourage children to be flexible. There are eighteen children altogether in the classroom, and three trikes. They have proven to be very flexible in taking turns or partaking in another activity until a trike becomes available. The children have already began to progress in their ability to maneuver quickly and confidently using the trikes. They have the opportunity now to practice coordinating their bodies so they can pedal appropriately in order to move the trike forward instead of backwards while riding. They enjoy incorporating their imaginary play as they ride their trikes, as they pretend to go to California, or pretend they are on a Brooklyn bound A train, making express stops. I look forward to witness the immense amount of verbal expression, motor skills and cooperation as they continue to use the trikes as the year progresses.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sinanan

My students come from diverse families, and enjoy being active. The children spend time throughout the day working in small and whole groups doing various activities in the classroom. Gross motor play is an opportunity for them to have a safe space to be active, to run and to play.
