Kickstarting A Wonderful Year!
Funded Sep 17, 2015We are most grateful for the items donated to our classroom. This year we accomplished a lot with the items and resources your donations made possible. The students were delighted to know that they were going to receive notebooks, pencils and other items they use daily. Your gift made a great impact on the day-to-day function of my classroom. Students were able to have pencils each morning, notebooks and other supplies. The notebooks made a difference during instruction. We had enough books to complete journal entries, guided practice logs and learning reflections logs. Having a flip chart was a great improvement for guided practice because it made it easier for the children to flip the pages somewhat to review previous guided lessons. The chart was a common "go to place". This helped my students because in many ways it forced them to reflect and become more accountable for their own learning. The glues were used daily to place work done during math and reading. In some cases we used them for other activities such as our science project and art. My students and I are grateful for your contribution towards a year of teaching and learning. Throughout this experience, I am happy my children understood that someone believed in them enough to make a thoughtful contribution to their future through volunteerism and charity. In return, sometime in the future, they would continue the act of charity. Again, my children and I thank you for your generosity.”

Tools For Success
Funded Dec 24, 2014This project has afforded my students an opportunity to celebrate their learning. As a result of your kind contributions, my students were given a chance to have a pencil everyday this school year. Our classroom bulletin board are brighter and engaging. The fraction and math manipulative are a hit among learners!
This project impacted my students in many ways. The manipulates helped my students to practice math concepts and connect with real life math scenarios. The items were received a few weeks before our math unit on fractions. My students were happy to use the fractions game during enrichment exercises. The bulletin board borders revamped the physical environment of my classroom and boost students' morale. The well decorated boards became a motivating factor for students to complete and post their final product on the board. In September I realized one of my greatest problem was the time lost while transitioning between instruction and independent practice. During this time students were struggling to find sharpened pencils. This project afforded students the comfort of having a pencil and reduce anxieties students faced being unable to provide pencils. As a result there was a seamless transition between instruction and independent work. The impact of this project went a long way for great instruction and learning.
Thank you for your contribution. "The greatest test of mankind is in the art of giving."”

This classroom project was brought to life by Kia and 7 other donors.Project Based Learning For All...
Funded Aug 26, 2014Our project, Project Based Learning for All, truly unfolded after receiving your kind donation. Upon receiving the news that our project was funding the children were excited and I was even more jubilant. I imagined all the things the children and I was about to accomplish even before we got these items. When we finally received them the children and I opened the boxes together. I told them what each item was and how we were going to use them.
Our first project was Connecting Community and Culture. Under that theme we began researching different communities and cultures. Students were able to use the multicolor writing organizer as a self-monitoring tool throughout the writing process. The bins and stationary caddy donated helped students to organize and store the items they needed for group work. As the classroom teacher, the most exciting part was observing students positive attitude towards peer editing and critiquing their work. We use the document projector daily as a tool to project exemplars, share text and illustrations. The project truly came alive when we began to design our different models for our communities, as depicted in the photograph. We constructed different types of buildings we studied using paper mache and empty milk cartoons. We continue to use these items to keep learning engaging and meaningful.
This project boosted my students group engagement and meta-cognitive development. Students became more involved in group activities because they wanted their group to progress successfully as a unit. The use of the document projector to showcase good effort in writing and math motivated students to complete exemplary writing and math pieces. My teaching practices have changed. The document projector has allowed me to project and model writing on the smart board. The classroom structure and organization has improved. Students are aware of the items they need to begin their tasks and maintain productivity. Currently, I am able to teach students self-monitoring behaviors vicariously through the systems we have in place in our classroom. Most importantly, students took ownership of their learning by giving each other feedback and thinking about their own thought processes.
I am truly thankful for the impact you have made in my classroom. My students and I received items we could not have afforded without your charity. I cannot express enough thanks for your contribution of an experience worth having. From all of us a big, THANK YOU!”
