Having an iPad and Chromebook in my classroom will allow for my kids to do so many things. This past summer, over 30 educators and myself participated in an online book club while reading The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. I learned many amazing ways to get kids excited about reading and to instill the love of reading. A common practice that teachers have their students do is to complete a response sheet after completing a book...not so fun. With an iPad, students will get an opportunity to express their creativity by making iMovies to create book reports. Students can also create book previews to share with their classmates which in turn will encourage other students to read the same book. My students have a 70 Book Challenge where they will read picture and chapter books to accomplish the goal. The Chromebook will be used for students to log in to my online reading log to help keep track of all the books they are reading at school. Students can also create a Google document on the best books read and highly recommended and share with each other throughout the year. Having these tools in our classroom opens up a world of possibilities for my 2nd graders.
