Minis for Many Kindergartners
Funded May 14, 2014I want to thank you for the donations to help the Kindergarten students have access to I pad Minis. This technology has been beneficial to the students and it is exciting to watch them use the apps. Some apps include games to the learn the ABC's, sight words, spelling and leveled books.
My school has been very supportive in providing funds to purchase apps for us. We currently have 19 apps that focus on Level A and Level B books. I just made a proposal to my principal, Renae Deffenbaugh, to purchase level C books for the I pads. She is completely supportive of this idea.
The children rotate on a daily basis during reading groups to use the I pads. During this time the students listen to leveled books which help them increase their exposure to books and increase their reading levels. The books are non fiction books and it reads the stories aloud to the students. During center time, the I pads are available for the students to choose as a center. During this time, they can choose any of the apps to play. Endless ABC's and Tracing the Alphabet are two of the favorite apps children pick during center time. Two students in Kindergarten need extra support with learning their letters. They receive extra support for 20 minutes each day. Part of the tutoring plan includes using the I pads to play letter recognition games.
Our school just completed parent conferences last week. I enjoyed showing the parents the I pad Minis and some apps they could use at home with their child. Lots of parents have smart phones and are able to down load these wonderful educational apps. There is a math program called IXL our school uses school wide. I was able to explain the program using the I pad and how they could use the IXL at home.
Thank you so much for your donations! This was my first experience using Donor's Choose and I am so grateful for your generosity to help this proposal become an exciting learning experience for the students.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Allen
