Young Meteorologists
Funded Nov 8, 2014Thank you again for your donation toward the purchase of a weather station for our school. We are currently studying weather and the weather station has really aroused the students' curiosity.
We have mounted the weather station to the roof of the school so that it is still visible to students through the solarium (allowing them to view the wind vane and anemometer). The station transmits live weather conditions to a receiver, which we have connected to a dedicated computer in the classroom (we call it our weather monitor).
I often tell my class that an important component of the scientific method is sharing your observations with others. Just yesterday, our technology department completed software installation that allows the weather station to upload data directly to the Internet, where we have created a page on Weather Underground. This will allow students, families, and others in the community to view the current weather conditions as observed by our station. We are now planning to add a weather report to our morning announcements and a climatology report to our monthly newspaper. The software also gives us the ability to record and graph weather data. Students have already concluded that lower air pressure leads to stormy weather!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Bowen
