  • Elmo isn't Just a Red Puppet, its a Great Teaching Tool Too!

    Funded Apr 24, 2013

I want to take another opportunity to thank you for your donation! Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to purchase the document camera before the end of the school year.

Not only that, but through facebook, texts, and conversations, you reached out to me and helped us.

The next step is using our document camera. Though it is the end of the school year, there are still lots of lessons to be learned along with projects, graduation activities, etc., etc.

My class loves technology and they are so happy that it can now be integrated into learning!

Again, thank you from me and my class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grano

  • 1,000 Children and a Broken Copy Machine!

    Funded Oct 3, 2012

In the past few weeks, our classroom has become even more organized and well run than it was before.

The copy machine has brought much more organization to our classroom. Firstly, having a copy machine has helped us differentiate our homework and reading work for students. We often create several copies of short text that the students use for homework and for class work. We are able to make copies of lost student papers and facilitate communication to parents.

Our copy machine has not just helped our classroom, but also the other 5th grade classroom in the building. We have more liberty of creating our own materials to help meet the needs of our students. We are able to make copies and distribute materials without the looming worry that we will not be able to give students the supplies they need to complete their work.

For your help, we are very grateful. The children and teachers can go on with their school day as planned!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grano

  • Keeping Students up to Speed with Current Events

    Funded Oct 27, 2010

I want to thank you for your generous donation!

As a fourth grade teacher in NYC, it is important that my students are able to read non fiction text. Magazines will allow students to generate questions about their global community as well as thier own neighborhood.

This donation will also allow my students to have a platform from where they can express thier opinions using valid facts and have a more involved voice in the world around them.

I am very excited to receive the magazine subscription and use it within my classroom and share it among other fourth grade teachers. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grano

  • Having Somewhere To Sit: Taking Pride In Learning

    Funded Jan 26, 2009

On behalf of my students, I want to thank you for the lovely rug you have donated to our classroom.

The children are so excited to take a seat on one of the continents or on one of the the multicultural students on the rug!

Not only are the children excited about sitting at the rug, but they take great pride in keeping it clean and bright.

As their teacher, I see a change in how they regard the reading area and the library. Groups of students love to read on the rug while others who like to work alone, frequently ask me if they can work on the rug instead of at their desk.

Many teachers who have seen the addition to our classroom compliment how lovely it truly is.

You have inspired my students to not only be kind and generous, but you have also given them a sign that people in the world, outside their familiar surroundings, care about them and Thier education.

Once again, thank you for your kindness and positive message to my students. (And for the added comfort!)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grano

  • Personal Space For Kids Who Often Don't Have Any

    Funded Dec 18, 2008

I want to thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness especially during this holiday season. Just recently I have seen how my students appreciate the small things people do for them. I brought in cupcakes for Thanksgiving, and they were so appreciative, one of them wrote me a letter to say thank you. It reminds me about how much one act of kindness can touch a person's heart!

I cannot wait to tell my students!

    Thank you”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grano

I am a 5th grade teacher working in Brooklyn. This is my 6th year teaching, and I feel blessed to have met so many intelligent people and inspirational children. I love working in a city where diversity and community influences are a part of the classroom-good or bad. Every experience is one you can learn from, and as a teacher, I enjoy that.
