Funded May 16, 2022My students and I thank you. We applaud you for your generosity. Our students have had an interesting 2 years, and despite all of that, they show up with so much enthusiasm for the days and weeks ahead. We can't wait to get Doodling with our 3D- Doodle Pens!”

Funded Sep 3, 2019Across the country, children are being marginalized because they do not match the characteristics of a "good" student. Generally a "good" student is seen as one who is compliant (i.e., sits still, raises hand before speaking, etc.). I will admit that I once held this belief, I equated a student's compliance, with their ability or inability to learn. Over the years this belief I held for so long has evolved. After 17 years in the classroom, I have grown to understand the complexities of learning, and these complexities cannot be narrowed down to something as simple as "if a student sits still, he/she/they, will become a better learner." Which led me to create a learning environment where my students were at the forefront of its design.
When school began September 5, 2019, my classroom was pretty traditional with traditional desks and chairs, and traditional seating arrangements, however on September 17th, that all changed. My students walked into a classroom that was transformed. They now had desks which they could write on. They had seats that would allow them to wobble and bounce, or perhaps recline and sit on the floor. They also had desks where they could stand, just in case they were tired of sitting. Their reaction to the furniture was one of excitement. "You mean we can write on the desks, and not get in trouble?" Each day, the students entering my class, have something that had not been available to them, and they love it. Since the flexible seating is limited, they work out their own system of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to take advantage of the items that were purchased. At any given time, you may see a student switch places with their peer in order to work at the standing desks. You may see students bouncing and wobbling on one of the balance ball seats. You may see a student working in or out the classroom on one of the floor chairs. For some of my colleagues, I understand this may seem a bit chaotic, but my students are engaged. Some are interacting with their learning in ways they have never done in the past, and all of this is due in part to your generous donations. Let's face it, public education is not as equitable as some will like to believe, and unfortunately, students, like the ones I serve, do not have the same access as some of their peers to certain resources.
Due to the generous donations of my donors, many of my colleagues are now intrigued about the possible benefits of a flexible seating classroom, and they are figuring out ways in which they can convert their learning environments. In terms of next steps, I like to think that my students are the inaugural beneficiaries of this project. The resources purchased through this project will continue many other students in the years to come. If my classroom numbers remain the same, I think it would be safe to say, that by 2025, over 300 students would have been able to take advantage of the resources gathered from this project, all thanks to you.”

Funded Apr 1, 2006It is funny. I was talking to my supervisor just this morning about my proposal, and ironically here I am checking my e-mail and to my surprise I find out that my proposal has been chosen. I don't think words can express how happy I am that you have decided to fund my library.
Thank you so much. My students will be very pleased to see that our classroom library has expanded tremendously.
Thanks again,
Jeannette ”
