A classroom or a cheese factory? It has been said that you can compare students to American Swiss Cheese. Students enter a classroom with a few or many holes in their learning, especially when it comes to reading. I teach first grade at a Title I school and it is not uncommon for the students to come to me with many holes in their learning. I must start at the basic level and work with my students on developing phonemic awareness.
