  • Reading One Book at a Time!

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Our students are so excited to hear that our classroom library is growing! Your generosity and love for our classroom goes beyond words. Thank you for partnering with me to continue grow the joy of reading to our students. You are making a difference one book at a time. Please look forward to the pictures! :)”

  • The More You Read, the More You Know!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my impact letter. I recently came back to work after maternity leave and was blown away by all the generous donations you provided in my classroom. There were boxes of books and book bins waiting to be used in the classroom after winter break. These particular books you donated are a part of a specific collection of "must haves" that are exclusively made for teachers looking for books on Scholastic. These must have contain books that have won Newbery Medals, as well as, teacher and student favorites over the past years.

As a resource specialist teacher, I have the amazing opportunity to work with students with intellectual disabilities, who often fall behind on their reading skills. With access to this multitude of books you have donated, I can introduce books that might be below their grade-level, but meets them exactly where they need to be met. I will be using these books in our whole group read-alouds, guided reading groups, and book shopping (students get to shop for books, take them home, and return them when they are done). My students have been especially ecstatic about the picture books, because they love the vibrant colors and funny facial expressions. Students are able to pick a book of their own choice and read independently at the classroom library or at their desk. The books you provided give my students access to a wide range of books, which helps cultivate a love of reading.

As you may or may not know, students with reading difficulties need more access to a variety of books to help motivate them to read. Thank you for playing a MAJOR role in facilitating this literate mind. You are bringing them closer day by day to become better readers, so they can be successful members of today's global society.”

  • Reading for Pleasure in Our Comfy Chairs

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my impact letter. I recently came back to work after maternity leave and was blown away by all the generous donations you provided in my classroom. Thank you for providing my students with comfy floor seats and fluffy pillows.

My students were so excited to start using the materials, the moment I opened the box. They were immediately drawn towards the floor seats, that are used by our classroom library. No matter the age of the student, the floor seats are a hit! They love using the seats for independent reading time, as well as, partner reading time. With the floor seats, they are able to enjoy their independent reading time comfortably. As you may know, sitting on a regular chair for long periods of time can be difficult, not only for a child, but also an adult! These floor chairs provide a different seating arrangement throughout a school day, which the students love to enjoy.

Furthermore, my students are also enjoying the comfy pillows. Some of my students hold the pillows while they are doing a writing assignment. Others like to hold on to the pillows while they are reading a book. It provides a sense of comfort, as they engage in academic tasks.

Thank you for your generous contribution to my classroom. It's heartwarming to know there are donors like you who care about today's students and classrooms. I know for a fact my students will use the floor seats and comfy pillows, as the months and years go by. As my students tell me, "You're the BEST! Thank you!"”

  • Technology for Special Needs!

    Funded Dec 17, 2015

    Hi donors!

Thank you so much for all your donations!

Our entire class appreciates all you've done for our class. The Mimio is a Smartboard that attaches directly to a whiteboard. It allows myself and my students to manipulate digital images from the computer directly onto a whiteboard. The Mimio is a interactive whiteboard that allows the teacher to create educational computer games and interactive activities to enhance student learning. It's amazing to see that students can learn with technology because technology is almost an essential product in our 21st century digital age.

The students love interacting with the Mimio and they are constantly excited about using it. Most of our interactions with the Mimio surround Language Art activities. We play jeopardy games, matching games, treasure hunts, and even simple games such as Tic-Tac-Toe to engage student learning! Back in the day, we could only imagine how technology could be integrated in the classroom. In today's time, it seems almost impossible to keep technology out of the classroom. We even get to take attendance on the Mimio with stimulating questions everyday. Students are excited simply to walk in to the classroom doors every morning to answer a simple question because they get to interact with the Mimio!

As a young teacher, I have yet to explore new avenues in incorporating the Mimio in all areas of learning. Thank you for taking your time and money to invest in a special needs classroom such as mine. My students with special needs cannot thank you enough with your donations. You are part of a budding group of students lives who are excited to learn everyday. Thank you for being a part of their educational growth and learning.

If you have any questions regarding the Mimio, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at sol.namkung@lausd.net.

Thank you again!! Room 215 LOVES YOU AND THANK YOU!! :)”

I teach a wonderful group of students with special needs who attend a Los Angeles public elementary school. They come to school with enthusiasm every day and love to learn. They love to learn and explore all academic areas. My students especially enjoy reading, however, their reading abilities are very limited. Most of my students are Second Language Learners with Specific Learning Disabilities, as well as Autism, which impacts their abilities to read. They enjoy learning and want the opportunity and resources to help them succeed. I want to provide opportunities and resources for my students to build their confidence in reading, which builds success to all academic areas. My students want to improve their reading abilities to excel not only in English language arts, but also in math, science, history, and the arts. Reading is a key life skill that all students need in order to be successful in the real world! :)
