Curling Up With a Good Book
Funded Sep 3, 2020My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to "Curling Up With a Good Book." As you can see from the pictures, we received a mountain of books from Scholastic due to your kindness. This is just what we needed to take a break from all of the online reading, since being cooped up at home for the last 6 months. Prior to the delivery of our new books, students were making comments like, "I wish the library was open, so I could check out a book." "I can't find anything to read on Epic." "When is our next drop off/pick up day?" "I don't have anything else to read at home."
Now I am hearing excited comments like, "Ooooo I don't know which one to choose." "Can I pick two?" "Where did all these books come from?" Yes, drop off/pick up day was a bit more cheerful with so many choices. I only see them in person once a month, so it was neat for me to listen to their comments and it sure helped me get to know them just a little bit better as I watched them choose their books.
They have had the books in their hands for about two weeks now and I have already noticed an increase in AR testing, reaching their goals, and keep up with their accuracy. It has made such a positive impact, allowing them to choose books aligned with their interests, rather than just stuffing books that match their reading level in envelopes and sending them on their way. Again, thank you for your generosity and making a difference in my fabulous 5th graders' lives.”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by A Generous Donor and 5 other donors.Total Engagement
Funded Sep 19, 2013My students were so excited when the white boards and markers arrived! They were very helpful in getting everything unpacked, sorted, and distributed. The were suggesting ways to start using them before we even had them all handed out. One girl remarked, "This is just like Christmas!"
We absolutely love our new tools. We use them throughout the day, in every subject. In math, we use them like scratch paper to solve problems and when I need to check for understanding. For language arts, they come in handy when we need to correct sentences or practice parts of speech. We recently used them in a science lesson during a vocabulary jeopardy game. They have endless uses!
This has been such a rewarding experience for my first project at Donors Choose. I have seen increased engagement, better understanding, and a faster way for me to do a quick analysis to either reteach a concept or move on with new instruction. My students and I can't thank you enough for your generosity!”
