My students are eager and inquisitive children, the majority of them are English Language Learners. They attend a public school in a low income area. One of the best ways to help them to develop language and learn to read is to expose them to music.
Children have a natural love for music and we should expose them to as much music as we possibly can. This will help them to learn English while exposing them to stories, classic folksongs, and new music. Music education has also been shown to improve performance in Mathematics. Don't we owe it to our kids to give them this exposure?
