I teach 16 special needs students, who are below grade level. They are hard working, but struggle with their everyday academics. Their reading levels are at least two grades levels below; for instance I have a fourth grader reading on a kindergarten level. This is why Kindle Fires would be good because the student can use apps for a targeted skill that needs reinforcement. This technology is more interactive than paper and pencil for a student and they have fun while learning. My school has around 460 students in rural Ohio. We have over 60% free and reduced lunch and not much parent support.
