  • Spectacular Coding With Sphero

    Funded Feb 10, 2020

Thank you for funding our Sphero project. Our students were able to use the resources right away. The students learned how to install the Sphero app on their Chromebooks. They also learned how to operate the robots with the app.

The students were so excited to have the shipment arrive to our class. They wanted to open it up right away. We wasted no time and were able to use the robots the very same day.

My students will have the opportunity to use these Sphero robots for years to come. They will use them during STEM time and during our MakerSpace time. Sphero robots will continue to promote collaborative learning and allow students to engage in fun hands-on learning.”

  • Learning Coding With Osmo

    Funded Dec 28, 2016

Our class is so grateful for all you have given! We have really enjoyed using our new iPad and Osmo games. The students love, love, love the new games. The Pizza Co. game teaches them about running a pizza store and helps them learn to count, add, and subtract money. It's a great way to introduce this concept. The Monster Coding game allows students to use directional pieces to teach their monster to move from one spot to another.

The students learn much better when they're allowed the opportunity for hands-on learning. The iPad and new Osmo games provides them this opportunity. They get so excited every time the Osmo games come out because they know they'll get to work with a partner to play.

"I wish we could play Osmo all day!" is what I heard one of the students say last time they were working at the center. I love that students don't even realize the invaluable skills they are learning through play. Without you, this would not have been possible. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Happy For Hokkis

    Funded Aug 25, 2016

Thank you for your help funding our classroom Hokki stools! These have been even better for the students than I first imagined. The stools allow for movement while students are trying to focus. This allows them to get their six year old wiggles out and still remain engaged in learning and in their work.

When the students first saw the stools they were so excited and cheered. They could not wait until they were able to move to the different center tables to try them. Now that we have so many, the students are able to take several turns on them throughout the day.

We are already brainstorming as a class to think about our next project request that will help students become motivated to learn and stay engaged in class.”

  • iNtune with Learning Through iPads

    Funded Aug 15, 2016

Thank you for your amazing and most generous donations to make it possible for our class to have and use our 2 new iPads this year. This has made it possible for students to learn independently on the iPads in small groups. They are used everyday for listening to stories, doing word work games, practicing math and reading skills, and for other various educational games too.

We have an iPad schedule in class to ensure all students have a turn and are able to use them each week. The students enjoy using the iPads and look forward to their turn. I have been able to purchase several different stories and learning games on the iPads with iTunes gift cards. The favorite apps seem to be the Disney stories and a Sushi Monster math game that teaches addition and subtraction skills.

All student have been able to enjoy these classroom additions including the gifted students, on-level students, and our students who are struggling with learning. The iPads are an excellent motivation tool that we are all very thankful for. Thanks again!”

  • Movin' and Groovin' in 1st

    Funded Aug 5, 2016

We are very grateful to Target for funding our classroom grant! The students were very excited to see all of our new boxes come in and could not wait to open them.

The students absolutely love all of the choices they now have for active seating. Students are able to choose which seats they learn best and use those seats during our daily classroom activities. The students' top 2 favorite seats are the stability balls and the Hokki stools. All of the seats and tools allow an outlet for students' excess energy and help them get their wiggles out while they learn.

I look forward to having these wonderful active seating choices for many years to come. Thanks again!”

  • 1st Grade STEM Exploration

    Funded Jul 31, 2016

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! With your help, our classroom has some amazing new STEM materials that we have been using since the first week of school. The kits we received are a fantastic addition to some of our reading stories as well as our science units.

The students could not believe so many kits were included and begged me to open them right away to check out the contents. We got started right away with our first challenge to build a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students had a great time planning and building a bridge to pass the challenge. It was a great learning experience for the entire class!

I look forward to using the rest of the kits throughout the school year and seeing the joy on the students' faces as they learn through hands-on play.”

  • STEMing at Centers

    Funded Feb 3, 2016

Our class has absolutely enjoyed all of their new math and science centers they received. Marble Run is one of the class favorites, which allows students to build a tower and send marbles down as they watch gravity in action. Another favorite resource is the Osmo kit that allows them to interact with the iPad to build words, make shapes, and do math problems with friends.

All of the resources have allowed students to gain knowledge and understanding through hands-on materials as well as gain skills working together with classmates.

We cannot express to you enough the gratitude we feel toward your selfless giving to our classroom! All 20 students have the opportunity to enjoy these exciting resources and many more students will benefit in the years to come. This would not have been possible without you, and for that we are truly grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Phillips

  • Discovery with Dash and Dot

    Funded Sep 9, 2015

Thank you very much for your generous contributions to our classroom project Discover with Dash and Dot! The students have been using these resources for months and are excited every time they come out. We use the robots several times a week and the iPad mini daily. We are able to incorporate the iPad into reading and math also.

Dash and Dot have opened a new realm of possibilities for students as they learn about using coding to control the robots. They are able to use the coding to make Dash move, the lights change colors and patterns, and to make music through sounds and on the xylophone attachment. One of the students' favorite games is to play hide and seek with the two robots. During this game, they control Dash and help him find his buddy Dot. The silly sounds and motions that the robots make when they find each other makes the students laugh every time.

At first, many of the students were timid in using the iPad to control the robot and didn't think they could do it. After instruction and practice, the students are now very comfortable with the iPad apps and using them to control the robot.

Without your help, this would not be possible. We would like to thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for helping us become even more excited about learning through our new robots Dash and Dot!”

  • Rug for Firsties

    Funded Aug 22, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donations! The students were very excited to receive and use our new classroom rug. They always rush to be the first ones on it when it's time to learn.

The rug is used every day and is a great aesthetic addition to our classroom. We have received many compliments on how colorful the rug is. The students meet each morning on the rug as they learn reading skills. They use it during partner reading time as well as a place for doing word work activities. It is also used daily for math and story time.

It serves as a general meeting place for students to learn as well as a providing a comfortable place for the students to sit. We love our classroom rug and could not have had it without your support. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Phillips

"I am enough of a realist to understand that I can't reach every child, but I am more of an optimist to get up every morning and try." -Steve Sherman. I teach in a Title I school, where almost 65% of the students are free or reduced lunch. My classroom consists of 20 students, who vary in their abilities. In my general education classroom, I teach inclusion students, who have specific learning disabilities, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students, and gifted students. Even though my students differ in background knowledge and capabilities, they each have their own special talents and come to school eager to learn.
