Our elementary students are faced with many challenges this year, in a wide variety of home situations as they learn virtually to keep our community healthy. Being engaged while distant from friends and their academic leaders will be difficult. Our plan is to do more than simply engage our students; we want to activate their imaginations and show them the potential within each of them. To that end, the students will be designing and building useful objects and explaining how their object will be used and benefit our society. They will need to measure materials, calculate angles and consider how best to conserve our limited resources. They will work in teams, document their designs, build, test and redesign their products. They will share their ideas with business representatives from our community to get feedback and make improvements. When the finished product is produced they will write an explanation of the process used in their project creation and it's intended use. The final product will an description of their processes, a video demonstration of how their creation is used and the the benefit of their product. Some items we are planning and preparing to build: clocks, educational games, robots, boxes, and unknown items of the students' creation to improve lives.
We need nails, nuts and bolts, plus tools to complete the kits for our students. My students absolutely love hands-on, creative and engaging projects that challenge them and help them to see the value and use of their math and literacy skills. They work together to include our total population. Let’s work together to give them the resource to get the designs in their minds onto paper and into their hands
