  • Snacks for the Soul

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

The word spread! I was the official snacks teacher at the school. I was able to make sure that my Geometry students stayed focus throughout the class sessions AND I was able to fuel kids in other classes as well.

There is a poster on our wall that states Mathematics is weightlifting for the Brain. As students were engaged in modeling, thinking, discussing, and planning, the ideas flowed because the snacks flowed. We would often see students stand up in the middle of a thinking session, say "Hold up, I need a break", eat, and then get right back to it.

In the kids words "The snacks hit!"”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Aviles

  • Colorful Math Presentations

    Funded Mar 9, 2017

Almost two years ago many of you helped our school to get a color printer. We are a school of all English language learners who are constantly looking for ways to help our students develop their language and content skills.

As a result of obtaining the printer, teachers now have easier access to create visuals that help support language acquisition. In addition, Students are using the printer to include vivid handouts in their class and club presentations. We also are now able to print pictures and flyer's to use for our hallways, bulletin boards, and newsletters.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Aviles

I teach Algebra 2 to 11th grade English Language Learners. Our students have been in the US for four years or less. They come to us from over 20 countries including, but not limited to, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Senegal, Togo, Venezuela, and Yemen. While reading, speaking, and writing English is a hurdle for all of our students, the high expectations and rigorous instruction in both content and language is always met with enthusiasm!
